LOL thats ridiculous. A basketball site? Whats the point of that?

I created a new sticky thread to document the other supported video types. Creating new mycode tags to handle it seemed the easiest way to implement since editor integration means modifying core code.

It seems MSNBC don't wan't people embedding because they don't make it easy. The id in the url is not sufficient to build a video embed object. People would have to copy/paste embed code for each video so I can filter out what I need. I guess it's cos it has MS in it's name. They should have gone with Linux programmers.

Basketball? Say what?
That's the home of Major League Baseball.
The point?
Oh, I don't know. I mean it's not like there's a sports secti... oh, wait. Big Grin

So now we can embed FAUX NEWS but not MSNBC.
That's not fair. Or balanced. Laughat
It's seems wrong that an Atheist forum can only embed news vids from a pro-religious "news" site... Weeping

So may I ask why you don't want us to insert html directly into posts on this site?
Just curious.

Yeah, I just don't think it's worth my time to implement.

It's less to do with the news site and more to do with how the site implemented the video. At least FOX did a better job than NBC in that respect.

Just curious.

It can open up a can of worms. Vulnerabilities having js running on the page from untrusted sources etc. It's easier to control the content with that switched off. Otherwise people can practically do anything on your page including embedding malware and attempting browser exploits. Hackers could open accounts here, pretend to be real users and then embed iframes into posts that retrieve anything from any server.

Filtering out the tags that are easy to use maliciously makes it so crippled there would be no point having it. I'm not allowing it and that makes things easier.

RE: Embedded video
Thanks for the explanation. No sense putting the site in jeopardy.
Bummer about MSNBC.
Still I wonder how other forums do it (allow embedding of MSNBC).

They have the crappiest embedding code of all video sources I've seen so far. It looks more like a workaround or an afterthought rather than actual decent embedding support.

I found a site that got it going: http://www.phpbb3bbcodes.com/viewtopic.php?t=623 and modified it to work for this forum.

In case anyone else with mybb wants to add msnbc support:
Code:
Regex filter: \[msnbc\](\d+)\[/msnbc\]

Replace With:
<object width="420" height="245" id="msnbc2b1f9b"><param name="movie" value="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0"><param name="FlashVars" value="launch=$1&width=420&height=245"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="wmode" value="opaque" /><embed name="msnbc2b1f9b" src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" width="420" height="245" FlashVars="launch=$1&width=420&height=245" allowscriptaccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="opaque" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed></object>

It's confusing since it has multiple id's in it. Most of them don't seem to matter so I wonder why they are needed. I decided against using the copy pasted url and filtering the number since they have a weird url format that looks like it could change at any time.

With video id in the bbcode it will be immune to msnbc video url changes.

Cool! So where do we place the video ID?

You should be reading the sticky thread: Other-Supported-Video-Sources

It's all documented there.
