I confess that I favour the latter over the former.
Not sure that they're in conflict. Friendships are relationships between equals, not based on domination which allows for the type of autonomy and self sufficiency that autarchy calls for. Also, autarchy is not just fiscal but also emotional and mental independence, ergo friendships are favored over other models of relationships.
