Eugene
so what if in the past century the only people who were allowed to reproduce were those with exceptionally good genetics, intellectual abilities, and physical strength. what if all who had clearly bad genes that could be passed on were sterilized?

whould the world we live in be better? wouldn't there be less obesity, feeble mindedness, or physical handicaps?

And more good looking people, who are more physically fit, and more intelligent? Would breeding only the very intelligent and physically fit, and sterilizing everyone else create a better world?

It wouldn't be so great if you one of non-exceptional.
If there were legal, mass-sterilizations happening I imagine the non-exceptional wouldn't be treated very well before they either died off or were killed outright.

RE: Eugene
Some jackass know-it-all already tried that: trimmed the human gene pool down to a guy named Noah and a handful of immediate family. It was an experiment even the jackass later admitted was a failure, promising never to do it again - at least in that manner.

As an agricultural practice controlled genetics has worked spectacularly well; nothing we produce as edible consumption for man or animal or plants isn't the end product of meticulously applied genetic manipulation. But I suspect if we tried to apply it to human qualities for purposes other than improved edibility, which insofar as humans are used such usage is not widespread anyway, success would be fleeting. No sooner would we attain a population of flawless anatomical proportion and attractiveness and four digit IQs than we'd "discover" our standards were set much too loosely and we'd tighten up allowable variances until everyone born resembled Elvis to an accuracy of 7 decimal places.

Why is this thread called Eugene? Is he the be-all-end-all of humanity?

Atheism is the only way to truly be free from sin.

Doesn't matter. I'd still be here! Smile

That is why Eugenics could only truly play out in a military dictatorship. There is no way to humanely institute it without atrocities and abuses.

My question, is if for the last 100-200 years, only the intellectually and physically strong and gifted breeded, would the world be a better place?

Short for Eugenics lol

I think there is a general consensus that weighing 400 pounds isn't good looking. Let's just say scratsh the good looking. How about those who are strong and over achievers either or both psychologically and physically.

People who are obese or have diseases that are often times passed on to their children don't breed. That's how cattle are bread. You breed the strongest , most healthiest, and those that will give you the most meat or milk. anyone who raises cattle knows this.

The interaction between DNA and RNA is just now becoming somewhat understood - and only just barely.

In light of that... define "good genetics".

Too difficult? Ok then, define "good looking".

Create a better world? Define "better".
