Bout time. Anyone with a finance background want to enlighten me as to what they are talking about in the last section?

Quote:All about money

The real impetus for increased pressure on Israel has been the failure of western economies and their disastrous currencies.

The real subtext for scaling back support for Israel has been seen in the strangely unreported change in America’s deficits.

During the last fiscal quarter, the United States has shown a net budget surplus for the first time in decades. Two of the last three months have yielded surpluses in excess of USD 100 billion.

The message has been clear to EU leaders, as America has drawn down its role as “policeman of the world,” the real security issue, potential economic collapse, has become less of a threat.

What is unlikely to be admitted is the simple fact that the projection of military power to secure resources, when those resources are exploited by multi-national entities, offers a very poor return.

Thus, Israel’s current dilemma is much more rooted in its role as an economic liability than in any concerns regarding human rights.

Are they saying that the surplus is due to decreased intervention and that it makes a case against the profitability of the war racket? ...I was unware that the US has been scaling back intervention and I assume that surplus is due to the sequester.

RE: European Union imposes sanctions on Israel.
Israel has a good enough military that they don't need funding from the US. They can buy their own guns and helicopters, they don't need the US to give them away for free.

E 2 = (mc 2)2 + (pc )2
614C → 714N + e + ̅νe
2 K(s) + 2 H2O(l) → 2 KOH(aq) + H2 (g) + 196 kJ/mol
It works, bitches.

Israel has a shitty economy and needs outside investment.

Quote:The EU's "territorial applicability clause" spells out that there can be consequences for flouting UN resolutions and international legality. Not enormous ones, true, but they still include funding, co-operation, scholarships, research funds and prizes for institutions in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, whose population now number about 520,000 people. Ariel University, near the Palestinian city of Nablus, is one obvious target.

Trade between the EU and Israel will not be affected, though there is a growing demand for the clear labelling of products originating in settlements – worth about £200m of £8.3bn in Israeli exports to the EU in 2011.

Iran however is still under EU sanctions. Funny that the only source for Israeli sanctions is the official Mouthpiece of the Iranian government, a government that is still under crippling sanctions. It is almost as if they are trying to convince people that Israel is hated by the west as much as they are...
