There's a few that I found I liked even though I knew it was about God. I happen to like "You Found Me" by The Fray. I don't know why. I just think it's a very pretty song.

When I still had seen the light (or hadn't, it's all a matter of perspective), I would "notice" religious connotations in a lot of songs. Stupid, I know, but that only comes to show that people mostly see what they want to see. But even back then I never thought that Bridge Over Troubled Waters was a religious song. Still don't. And it annoys me when brainwashed folk try to tell me it is. It's a lovely song and I wish they wouldn't sully it with their stupidity.

When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all (all)
I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

"E se non passa la tristezza con altri occhi la guarderĂ²."

I love this song, learned it was about religion, and I still love it. From what I understand the lead singer, Todd Lewis, comes from a very religious background. I believe his father was preacher of sorts, although judge by this song and their subsequent albums, I'm pretty sure he's an unbeliever now. It seems more like the song is about the fears (and hypocrisy) religious indoctrination instilled in him as a child. The band is a post-grunge outfit from Fort Worth, Texas (and my favorite thing to come out of that state next to AronRa).

The Toadies - Backslider

Bended knee
Nine years old
Waitin' for...
Just one word!

I was thinkin' of all the things
My daddy told me of
Sin and salvation and
Manhood and dignity...

All that time
In the dark
Just one word...
Backslider!

I remember the day I stepped
Into the water
My daddy held me in his hands
And pushed my head under
And said...

Son I am
So proud.
Just one word...
Backslider!

Well I opened my eyes
And my daddy held me in his hands
I looked up through the water
And thought I saw Jesus, and then...

Well I threw up my hands!
And I heard, Amen!
And I prayed, sweet Jesus
Don't let me become a backslider!

Fortunately, I can't readily understand half the shit he's saying (and in order to keep it that way, I refuse to look up the lyrics again), so it doesn't really bother me too much.

Implying you did understand the other half?!?!

All I heard was Megawave Background White-noise Radiation set to drums.

Simply noooo waaaay there is any god / jesus / holy goat in that song.

Who in that religion would be represented by the Silver Girl? Mary Magdalene?

How the fuck should I know! It had never even crossed my mind someone might think this was a religious song, until I came across a comment or something and then realised it wasn't an isolated case. I guess religionists think that only sky daddy can comfort us or something. After all, we all know that according to them people are worthless sinners. Dodgy

It actually sickens me, because the lyrics are beautiful and saying it's about god's love is like saying the love of human beings for each other is worthless or inferior. Screw that.

lol. I've been listening to such things for a long time, what can I say? Blush

I've even started to understand this, if you can believe it:

(Granted, I can only catch on to one verse, and the lyrics were required to do so. Then again, I'm not even sure there's anything to be understood at all. But, now, I can't unhear it. The mind's a powerful thing)

Through profound pain comes profound knowledge.

I don't mind spirituality songs. Music is music to me. There are some Christian songs I like simply for the beat or melody. Since I don't believe God exists I just ignore those parts.

I really like:

Yes I refused to buy a soulfly cd because max cavallero went jesus freak all over it. I tend to like music that degrades the believers. NIN God is dead comes to mind. A perfect circle, Judith is badass too.
