God doesnt play favoritism hes just more caring for the weaker individual. It was a morally upright society and socities fall when given into promiscuity said by dr.Unwin. Greeks had sex with little boys, dickens was during slavery, we just progress from what we believe now but thou shall not kill goes through the centries.

Yes he does. It's the first thing the angel says to Mary:

Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.
- Luke 1:28

Many times, it is clear that God has favorites, in the specific sense of chosen individuals who are told they are favored of God, and in the general sense of favoring the "righteous".

For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
You cover him with favor as with a shield.

- Psalm 5:12

No, he isn't. If that "weaker individual" belongs to the wrong religion, God is perfectly content with ordering the deaths of women, children, and the elderly... entire cities and civilizations. Throughout the Old Testament, God is perfectly content to use invading armies to kill the children of the people, if they don't worship to God's satisfaction. God even has a means, via the priests, of causing a miscarriage if a woman has been unfaithful to her husband (see Numbers chapter 5-- they use the euphemism "cause her belly to swell and her thigh to rot", referring to the miscarriage discharge in typically-Hebrew metaphoric terms).

(28-10-2016 10:38 PM)socialistview Wrote:  It was a morally upright society

No, it was not. It was anti-free-speech (with the Death Penalty for many of the forbidden-speech offenses, including killing sons for talking back to their faithers), pro killing people for being the wrong religion or the wrong sexuality, and severe punishments for a number of other insanely trivial things. The society you claim was "moral" was actually intensely Patriarchal, sexist as hell, racist as fuck, lethally homophobic, and perpetuated a tribal-warfare system of genocide and heritable, permanent slavery for non-Israelites (they only had what we'd call Indentured Servitude for their fellow Hebrews, though, so... that's nice).

It is pretty much the opposite of a "morally upright society".

(28-10-2016 10:38 PM)socialistview Wrote:  and socities fall when given into promiscuity said by dr.Unwin.

Despite this claim being endlessly repeated by Christians, there is zero evidence of a link between promiscuity and the downfall of any society. If you'd like to know why civilizations actually fail, I recommend Jared Diamond's excellent book Collapse. (Also, I recommend his Pulitzer-winning Guns, Germs, and Steel, though only tangentally related to this subject.)

You're referring to a book written in 1933, called Sex and Culture. From an early critique of Unwin's work:

To those who are tempted to follow the uncritical acceptance of Dr. Unwin's theories contained in Mr. Fyson's letter in your July number I should like to bring to notice the following facts:
1. More than half Dr. Unwin's book is devoted to a study of eighty selected uncivilized societies.
2. This study reveals a correlation between coercive sexual restraint and complexity of religious rites.
3. At this point Dr. Unwin (on his own showing) adduces no more material.
4. By appeals to psycho-analysis, and to analogy with physical science, he then insists that the sexual restraint and the ritual complexity must have the relation of cause and effect.
5. The application and elaboration of this principle in regard to civilized societies is carried on by entirely
a priori argument.
6. Only five pages are devoted to modern history and the results of sexological and other investigators into modern social conditions are neglected in toto.

[Edit to Add: I did some more looking, and it turns out that the quotes cited from Unwin are actually from an article in Christianity Today magazine, which was then circulated endlessly around conservative and "men's rights" circles, aren't even from Unwin's book. It's a misquote of another book he wrote that isn't even in print. Basically, this guy made a lot of unfounded assertions and was ignored until some Christian conservative picked up the book and decided to Lie for Jesus™. What a surprise.]

I'm really not sure what you mean by this. Are you claiming the Bible invented the concept of "thou shalt not kill"?

Charles Dickens lived from 1812-1870. England abolished the slave trade in 1807, before Dickens was born, and abolished the practice of slavery throughout the British Empire in 1833, when Dickens was 21. So I'm REALLY not sure what you mean to imply by "Dickens was during slavery".

Greek society did not fall because of their sexual practices. Indeed, under Alexander the Great (a homosexual), they conquered much of the known world at that time. They only fell because the Roman Legions developed a better system of fighting than the Phalanx. And the Greeks did not have sex with "little boys". Their practice was not pedophilia but ephebophilia, in which they had a tradition of older men teaching teenage boys about their sexuality, and in the case of some of the Greek sub-cultures, "wooing" them into choosing a particular mentor via the offering of gifts and/or status. It's entirely different from what you're trying to suggest, here, which is an outright moral depravity of desiring sex with prepubescent ("innocent") children, something that derives in large part from Christian teachings about the notions of "purity" and "innocence", and which was not part of ancient Greek philosophy.

Look, dude, you don't get to just make random, counter-factual claims here and expect us to take you seriously.

Dr. Unwin advocates low-carb diet, that was the most returned result from that name.

Here's something to consider, in the myth of Moses, Moses flees from Egypt after killing an Egyptian that was smiting a Hebrew.

He fled BECAUSE THE PHAROAH WAS GOING TO SLAY HIM FOR MURDER.

This was long before Moses ever spoke to the burning bush, long before the ten commandments.

How is this possible? Did Egypt possibly have laws that predated the ten commandments? Consider

More inane excuses for your petty, vain, vindictive, asshole god... RS already covered most of it better than I could.

Why would the existence of slavery during Dicken's time be a strike against him? He did not promote slavery and, as RS pointed out, the culture he was part of was taking strong steps to abolish it. His books are much better written than the bible and they promote a much better and more consistent message.

This is what happens when you don't read things for yourself but just take the word of your "holy book" via the priests that interpret it for you. Your seem to be so wrapped up in your bubble that you can;t see anything outside of it clearly. It is a real shame to see anybody with such a limited worldview.

By the way, "don't kill" was not a new command in the bible. Cultures much older had similar rules and punishments for unjust killings long before the Jews. Even your precious bible has instances of murder being recognized as wrong and punished before that was a "commandment". We don't need a god to tell us not to murder anybody and if you do then there is something wrong with you.

RE: Everybodies wrong.
Re-reading this page, it dawns on me the supreme irony of member of a religion that teaches that God Himself impregnated an unwed Jewish virgin, who would have therefore been around the age of 12 at the time, trying to list the Greek practice of ephebophilia as an example of moral decay/depravity.

Romans 2:11 says god doesnt show favoritism but thats the thing god is and god isnt he is both a teaching you can only find in higher teachings like the kabbalah. Theres always two parts to god faithful and just merciful and ruling. And your just a mere human to actually try to judge what god does and actually romans 2:12-16 says the heathen will be saved even if hes not a jew, god didnt kill anybody except the fighting men of jerico and the jews who swore an oath to live by living in a perfect society with gods intervention. Your just a creature a thing god made we dont even have information yet by the reason of being so young and beginning to have better technology to even know that gods rules have truth to us destroying everything. His name is jd unwin and people dont like to hear negative from what they want to do. And he says he doesnt let the evil flourish and its natural if you kill somebody somebody would want to kill you, example of how god is indirectly and directly involved in our lives.

There is nothing in the least bit "just" or "loving" about a god that creates and maintains a place of eternal punishment. That's a pile of crap that you use as an excuse for some of the absolutely inexcusable violence your god commits in the Bible.

Quote:And your just a mere human to actually try to judge what god does...

I don't know if you've noticed this, but you too are a "mere human." On that basis you have judged the Bible to be truth, whereas most of the individuals here at this forum have come to the opposite conclusion.

You cannot, repeat, cannot use anything in the Bible as evidence for your god. It's just a book, and there is nothing the least bit special about it. I could just as easily wander into the fantasy section of the local bookstore and hand you books that prove the existence of Crom, Offler the Crocodile God, and Takhisis, Queen of Darkness.

Quote:Your just a creature a thing god made...

The god of the Bible is much too stupid to create anything.

I think it is really cute that you think spouting bible verses has any meaning. Would my quoting Native American creation myths have any impact on you?

The bible is the claim. It was written by humans and there is absolutely nothing about it that implies any divine participation. There is nothing at all in the bible that is not reasonably expected of the cultures that produced it.

What evidence do you have that a god actually exists?

Quote:god didnt kill anybody except the fighting men of jerico and the jews who swore an oath to live by living in a perfect society with gods intervention

That is utter bullshit. You've been given verses that show that your god ordered the wholesale slaughter of entire nations. The fact that you refuse to incorporate that into your opinion or to perform any sort of independent evaluation is just sad at best. Your religion has destroyed your ability to think.

Quote:And your just a mere human to actually try to judge what god does...

You mean that you can judge the character but we can't? Perhaps you mean that you have abandoned all that makes you human and simply submit to whatever you are told is true without investigating it or evaluating it?

You do realize that if somebody could somehow prove that the god of the bible did actually exist it would be moral to oppose it as an evil tyrant, right? I do not surrender my ability and right to judge because my opponent has more power.
