RE: Evolution - How Eyes Evolved National Geographic HD 2015
Good documentary. Thanks.

A coupla things bugged me in terms of emphasis which are both related to a predilection for drama.

1. Mutations:
At the beginning they do 'the idiots' guide to' evolution and stress, repeatedly, that small mutations occur and some are advantageous and some are not; the advantageous ones are favoured by natural selection. Well, OK.

I have a colleague who asked why, if evolution is true, we aren't all like the X-men. Seriously!

I would prefer to see a little less emphasis on mutations and a little more on the equally natural changes that come about because of reproduction, i.e. two creatures pass on a mix of their DNA to their off-spring and some combinations are favoured by natural selection etc.

No need to get Spiderman fans all excited.

2. Cambrian Explosion
"Explosive transformation", "evolution's big bang" etc.

They even used a line that implied that species magically turn into other species: "1000s of new species burst into being".

Like Eve from Adam's rib Dodgy

No need to get Transformers fans all excited.

Undecided
