Existential Stuff Up!
Call me a luddite, call me a fool
The Internets just not my tool
Rock spiders there enticing kids
blogs designed young lives to rid
Call me old fashioned call me odd
Pity my lack of the latest I pod
But look at our world, the churl
The ever scary downward hurl
Scientism is our new Master
A high tech God, smarter faster

Working in unison with the old
the tele-evangelist comes on bold
Omnipotent,omnipresent, omniscient...
That equals an ooo, and perfect too!
Sitting aloof alone he ponders.....
Gee have I got it right down yonder?
Science and god, god what a pair
A duo designed to reach despair?

We'll save you all those isms say
Just follow us to a brand new day
Let's bomb the bastards into oblivion
God's on your side he's forgivin ya!

Nietzsche, Sartre,Albert Camus
Rand, De Beauvoir, Karl Popper too
Philosophers faking, taking up space
Alone Camus' question had some base
Life or suicide questioned his mind...
Randy Beauvoir chose a menage a trois
Of sensual leanings some say she was bad
unlike poor old Nietzsche she didn't go mad
Now Dawkins becomes a grand pooh bah
The question is scientism...how far, how far.

The fuck is Scientism?

Trouble rather the tiger in his lair than the sage among his books. For to you kingdoms and their armies are things mighty and enduring, but to him they are but toys of the moment, to be overturned with the flick of a finger.”

― Gordon R. Dickson

It is held by some that science has been empowered beyond its real worth.
By explaining everything by the scientific method, some believe that subjective
thinking, contemplation, feelings of awe, intuitive thought etc have been negated.

Sounds like a strawman used by post-modernists, new-agers, and theists. Drinking Beverage

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Precisely, if you hold science as the only all embracing universal truth, as you appear to do!

That is possibly the single most unintelligent thing you have ever posted here.

It is a strawman because there is probably no one that holds the view you described.

Alexander Rosenberg, in The Atheist's Guide to Reality, comes pretty close to holding that view. He even calls it scientism, although he sees it as a positive thing.

The term 'scientism' is used as a conversation stopper, much like 'reductionist'. Scientism is the philosophical position that the scientific method is the only source of knowledge; it not mean "...some believe that subjective thinking, contemplation, feelings of awe, intuitive thought etc have been negated." except in the minds of those who are anti-science.

"Strawman' is sometimes used to denigrate an assertion being made that is difficult to verify while not being impossible in a deeper existential sense. One need not be "anti science" to hold that science is not the all and everything of human understanding. You quote an aside by me, not my definition as presented in the first paragraph.........

I responded to what you posted. If you don't mean it, don't post it.
