Facebook ads are the best value online. You get to target them quite precisely. And they can go viral....

As always it were Russian bots. I read about all Facebook activities for the last time on datapo website. They always have updated information. The company loses its customers/users as shown by statistical data. As a result, it loses its profits.

The big money online is all about advertising.

You build a website and develop "reach". Therein lies the feat. Once you reach huge numbers of people, you can either place ads to make money, sell things directly, or sell info to others.

Amazon is a good mix of all of that - they sell you stuff directly, show you ads from businesses selling things of interest to you, and allow other businesses to use the platform to sell their goods. It has been a highly successful business model.

Another way to develop reach is to scrape information from other sites, which is what Cambridge Analytica did. In a more harmless way, the big travel sites for instance do this also, scraping info and prices from other publishers.

Reach is the core of online business. It is the single most valuable commodity these days. Amazon has reach because we know we will most likely find exactly what we are looking for and it gets to our doorstep asap. Facebook has reach because it provides easy communication for family and friends and also entertainment. Once entrenched, these kind of companies have huge staying power.
