Fact from fiction
Theists, how do you determine if something is fact or if it's fiction ?

How can you tell if someone is telling the truth or not.
Humans have the ability to intentionally lie or we can make mistakes when it comes to things we thought were true.

If a man writes a letter about a vision he had from a god, how would you determine the truth of that claim ?

What steps would you take to determine fact from fiction ? Or does the truth even matter to you at all ?

Insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

I'm not at all sure they are distinguishable.

I don't much bother with quixotic claims.

Only to the extent that it has been co-opted from the logicians to mean something entirely different. Imagining "truth" as something outside of and independent from a formal axiomatic system is naive.

It's fact if it sounds good and aligns with preconceived notions. Everything else is fiction.

Popcorn I put more thought into fiction than theists put into reality.

You don't really expect an honest response from them do you?

They have no way to determine fact from fiction, it's faith after all. I just wish they would drop the clover leaf of scientific credulity when defending ridiculous things like the Tower of Babel or people that lived almost 1000 years or angels with cocks getting women pregnant.

Have you not learned anything from Q? When God reveals himself to you, he also reveals the truth. Smartass Sheesh, pay attention. Drinking Beverage

@DonaldTrump, Patriotism is not honoring your flag no matter what your country/leader does. It's doing whatever it takes to make your country the best it can be as long as its not violent.

It goes like this:
  • If someone claims to have talked to God (or whatever), check to see if what they say matches scripture.
  • What interpretation do you use? The Biblically correct one, of course.
  • Which one is correct? The one used by True Christians, of course.
  • Which Christians are the correct ones? The ones who are following the Bible correctly, of course.
  • What is the correct way to follow the Bible?
Oh shit! Infinite loop! Bail out! Bail out!

Now, seed that with "a personal divine revelation" with a caveat that it must meet your personal interpretation of the Bible (which you know is legit because of the aforementioned divine revelation), and you're all set!

Bootstrapping meets presupposition! Who would have thought I could have put my Computer Science training to use in crafting apologetics?
