I am not opposed to legal immigration.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

The single mom trying to raise two kids with no education and no time or resources to get one? She's gonna get $14 from me. Because when people matter more than the dollar, everybody gets food on the table.
I think the business owner is at liberty to make that decision. So if that was your choice as a business owner then I'd respect that. But if I were a business owner, I would find it unethical to pay employee 1 more for doing the exact same job as employee 2, just because employee 1 was a single parent.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

No, neither am I, but within well managed and planned for limits. I mention it because at the moment I am biased to the situation happening over here in the UK with regards to the European Union and the mass immigration in my country (due to expand in January 2014 with the inclusion of Bulgaria and Romania) where it seems like cheap labour is being lapped up at the expense of the lower/middle classes (because of extra strains put on public services, housing etc)

What would your solution be to the wage "crisis" happening over in your country Adrianime?

EDIT: If you decided to employ two people stark doing the same job but paid them different wages, over here in the UK that is illegal.

For no matter how much I use these symbols, to describe symptoms of my existence.
You are your own emphasis.
So I say nothing.

So long as some degree of stratification exists (between regions and within specific societies) you will always be undercut.

And I'm not convinced a race to the bottom is particularly productive...

Illegal here too. That's because we can' the trusted to take care of ourselves, while still looking out for one another.

Just another decision on what is ethical made for you by your government.

I abide by the law to avoid prison. That doesn't mean I agree with it.

Well, yes. It's much easier to prohibit discrimination altogether than it is to somehow decide in which cases discrimination is "good/permissible" and in which cases discrimination is "bad"...

Your presumably democratically elected representative government, at least.

A democracy is two wolves and one sheep voting on what's for dinner.

And I feel far too old today to start listening to some punk spout off about discrimination......and I mean "punk" in the most endearing way possible. It's all just looking for an excuse to argue instead of putting on ones big-boy-panties, and making a fucking decision.

Do I seem grumpy today?
