RE: Favorite Song Lyrics

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season"

Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

And ?cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands

And breathe, just breathe
Oh breathe, just breathe

In May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a Day," he said down to the flask in his fist
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year"

Here in town you can tell he's been down for awhile
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles
Wanna hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, boys
So cradle your head in your hands

And breathe, just breathe
Oh breathe, just breathe

There's a light at each end of this tunnel
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer
Inside of me threatening the life it belongs to

And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand

And breathe, just breathe
Whoa breathe, just breathe
Oh breathe, just breathe
Oh breathe, just breathe

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics

Original lyrics:

Ob nied'res Pack, ob hoher Herrn
Am Ende sind wir Brüder doch
Dann leuchtet uns der Abendstern
Ins gleiche finst're Loch

Scheint das Grab dir tief und dumpf sein Druck
Alavott, so nimm noch einen Schluck
Und noch einen gleich dabei
Gleich noch zwei oder drei
Dann stirbst du sorgenfrei

I had to create a rough translation myself because I couldn't find one online. Here it is:

As we toddle off in a pious and gentle way,
drunken by wine and stuffed with food,
Godfather Death tells us "Good night,
your hourglass leaks out!"
To those who put their feet in their mouth
and those who think of themselves as great Lords,
I say: "The carpenter is
working at your coffin already!"

Does the grave seem deep and it's pressure muffling?
Cheers, take another sip
and another one afterwards
two more, three more
you'll be able to face death without fear.

To those who lust after another one's love
and feel like a nobleman nonetheless
I say: "Watch out, you'll enter your grave
while the minstrel plays his song!"
And to you who, full of envy,
shattered every glass in this hall,
I say: "When Godfather Death visits you in your bed,
long live your rival!"

Does the grave seem deep and it's pressure muffling?
Cheers, take another sip
and another one afterwards
two more, three more
you'll be able to face death without fear.

What use is your hatred that you spew forth,
when Godfather Death cares little about it?
With every other sip you take,
the worms get their promised share already.
Whether you're a lowlife bunch or a powerful Lord,
in the end we are all brothers,
as the evenstar shines each of us the way
in the same dark hole.

Does the grave seem deep and it's pressure muffling?
Cheers, take another sip
and another one afterwards
two more, three more
you'll be able to face death without fear.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to preserve the song's poetry and some of it's meaning when I translated the lyrics.

For the Sake of the Song
That was a first time hearing this one, too. The words are very sweet Shy

That. Was. Awesome. When I read the lyrics, before listening to the video, I didn't expect that. I didn't know what I expected. Thanks.

"The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul" - XTC

The man who sailed around his soul
From East to West, from pole to pole
With ego as his drunken captain
Greed, the mutineer, had trapped all reason in the hold
The man who walked across his heart
Who took no compass, guide or chart
To rope and tar his blood congealed
When he found his self revealed ugly and cold
And the sirens that sing
By your nose with its ring
They'll drag you in
For your sins
Now he sits all alone
And it's no place like home
It's empty skin
A bag to keep life's souvenirs in
The man who sailed around his soul
The man who sailed around his soul
The man who sailed around his soul
Came back again to find a hole
Where once he thought compassion and the truth
Had laid to warm his freezing carcass on return
The man who walked across his heart
Was doomed to journey from the start
Of every love affair he'd broken
All the lies he'd ever spoken
Tattooed on his arm
And the jellyfish stings
Even angels with wings
Who look too deep
And dare to peep
Now he sits all alone
Knowing flesh blood and bone
Is everything
He found the treasure he'd been seeking
The man who sailed around his soul

"Summer's Cauldron" - XTC
Drowning here in summer’s cauldron
under mats of flower lava
Please don’t pull me out, this is how I would want to go
Breathing in the boiling butter,
fruit of sweating golden Inca
Please don’t heed my shout, I’m relaxing the undertow
When Miss Moon lays down and Sir Sun stands up
Me, I’m found floating round and round
Like a bug in brandy in this big bronze cup
Drowning here in summer’s cauldron
Trees are dancing drunk with nectar,
grass is waving underwater
Please don’t pull me out, this is how I would want to go
Insect bomber Buddhist droning,
copper chord of August’s organ
Please don’t heed my shout, I’m relaxing the undertow
When Miss Moon lays down
(In her hilltop bed)
And Sir Sun stands up
(Raise his regal head)
Me, I’m found floating round and round
Like a bug in brandy in this big bronze cup
Drowning here in summer’s cauldron
Drowning here in summer’s cauldron
