I have never heard this song. But I kept reading it and found I appreciated the "poetry." Very interesting. I would call it a "gem" as well Thumbsup

I love that this song isn't trying to be subtle at all, it's just kind of beating you over the head with it's message, pulling no punches.

FILTER - The Trouble With Angels
The Trouble With Angels (2010)

Did you hear the one about heaven? There's a guy that's running the sky.
I heard his daddy gave us all seven; when we die we might be surprised.
It feels like the whole thing's made up; I can't really see their design.
Don't want to burn forever; so much for water to wine.
When you look into a microscope things get real.
When you take a better, second look miracles fade.

First you lost your angels, then you lost your crown.
Give up your holy mission - what was lost has just been found.
First you lost your angels, then you lost your crown.
Give up your holy crusade - what was lost has just been found.

Did you hear the one about zombies? Three days dead, then it's back to life.
He runs it all with rigid authority; you better make sure that your living inline.
I hope your not about free thinking - you'll burn in hell to the end of time.
It's too bad that he's this intolerant; so much for water to wine.

Looks like the rain is falling; the truth is changing. The sky is falling down.
Looks like the rain is falling; the truth is changing. The sky is falling down.

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics
One of the best bands nobody has ever fucking heard. They we're voted to number #83 on VH1's Top 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock back in 2000, keeping in mind that the list was compiled by and voted on only by other rock artists. They player in Woodstock 94' and ended their set with a cover of Jimi Hendrix's 'Manic Depression', and it was considered one of the highlights of the entire event. Completely underappreciated, in every sense of the word.

:EDIT:
And yes, that is lead singer Doug Pinnik playing a left handed bass. Not only that, it's a 12 string (4 sets of triple coursed octave strings) to boot.

King's X - Dogman
DOGMAN (1994)

Give me a dollar or give me 50 cents
Let me take it back if that ain't what I meant
Give me a coat or give me a bite
Give me a light bulb and make sure it's bright
Give me the moon or give me everywhere
Give me some powder to spray up in the air
Up in the air

Let me take my thoughts away
To think about another day
Remembering the times I pray
To help me deal with me
To be the dogman

Give me some attention lend me your ear
Give me what to do and get me out of here
Give me a book, give me something to read
Give me a horse race and give me who's the lead

Let me take my thoughts away
To think about another day
Remembering the times I pray
To help me deal with me
To be the dogman

To be the dogman
To be the dogman
To be the dogman
To be the dogman

All the sleeping never waking
All the leaves in need of raking
All the business undertaking
All my bones and muscles aching
Thoughts in mind are surely flaking
Over luncheons hands are shaking
Surety of no mistaking
Cars and horns and glass is breaking

Give me a color make it black or white
Give me a newspaper tell me if it's right
Give me a nail or give me a bat
Give me a skinny or give me a fat

Remembering the times I pray
To let me take my thoughts away
To think about another day
To help me deal with me...
To help me deal with me...
To be the dogman

To be the dogman
Dogman
To be the dogman
To be the dogman

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics
Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though
They're here to stay
OH, I believe
In yesterday
Suddenly
I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hangin' over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
Why she had to go
I don't know
She wouldn't say

I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday
Yesterday
love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe
In yesterday--The Beatles "Yesterday"

"It was life, often unsatisfying, frequently cruel, usually boring, sometimes beautiful, once in awhile exhilarating." -Stephen King

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics

(He was a... You know it... He was a...)

I was walking down the street
When out the corner of my eye
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me
She said "I've never seen a man
Who looks so all alone
Could you use a little company?
If you pay the right price
Your evening will be nice
And you can go and send me on my way
I said "You're such a sweet young thing
Why you do this to yourself?"
She looked at me and this is what she said

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know I can't slow down
I can't hold back
Though you know, I wish I could
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good

Not even fifteen minutes later
I'm still walking down the street
When I saw the shadow of a man creep out of sight
And then he swept up from behind
And put a gun up to my head
He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight
He said "Give me all you've got
I want your money not your life
But if you try to make a move I won't think twice
I told him "You can have my cash
But first you know I got to ask
What made you want to live this kind of life?"

He said "There ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know I can't slow down
I can't hold back
Though you know, I wish I could
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good"
Yeah

(He was a... You know it... He was a...)

Well now a couple hours passed
And I was sitting at my house
The day was winding down and coming to an end
An' so I turned on the TV
And flipped it over to the news
And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend
I saw a preacher man in cuffs, he'd taken money from the church
He'd stuffed his bank account with righteous dollar bills
But even still I can't say much
Because I know we're all the same
Oh yes, we all seek out to satisfy those thrills

You know there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
We got bills to pay
We got mouths to feed
There ain't nothing in this world for free
I know we can't slow down
We can't hold back
Though you know, we wish we could
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics
I sing this to my kiddo (the one with autism)

I'll stand by you

OH, WHY YOU LOOK SO SAD?
TEARS ARE IN YOUR EYES
COME ON AND COME TO ME NOW
DON'T BE ASHAMED TO CRY
LET ME SEE YOU THROUGH
'CAUSE I'VE SEEN THE DARK SIDE TOO
WHEN THE NIGHT FALLS ON YOU
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO
NOTHING YOU CONFESS
COULD MAKE ME LOVE YOU LESS

I'LL STAND BY YOU
I'LL STAND BY YOU
WON'T LET NOBODY HURT YOU
I'LL STAND BY YOU

SO IF YOU'RE MAD, GET MAD
DON'T HOLD IT ALL INSIDE
COME ON AND TALK TO ME NOW
HEY, WHAT YOU GOT TO HIDE?
I GET ANGRY TOO
WELL I'M A LOT LIKE YOU
WHEN YOU'RE STANDING AT THE CROSSROADS
AND DON'T KNOW WHICH PATH TO CHOOSE
LET ME COME ALONG
'CAUSE EVEN IF YOU'RE WRONG

I'LL STAND BY YOU
I'LL STAND BY YOU
WON'T LET NOBODY HURT YOU
I'LL STAND BY YOU
TAKE ME IN, INTO YOUR DARKEST HOUR
AND I'LL NEVER DESERT YOU
I'LL STAND BY YOU

AND WHEN...
WHEN THE NIGHT FALLS ON YOU, BABY
YOU'RE FEELING ALL ALONE
YOU WON'T BE ON YOUR OWN

I'LL STAND BY YOU
I'LL STAND BY YOU
WON'T LET NOBODY HURT YOU

Wind's in the east, a mist coming in
Like something is brewing and about to begin
Can't put my finger on what lies in store
but I feel what's to happen has happened before...

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics
I'm all kinds of emotional right now. Thanks for sharing that, momsbb Smile I couldn't help but imagine a mommy singing that to her sweet baby boy. I have a song I sing to MY precious every night, no matter what. I have a terrible singing voice, but from all those baby books I read while pregnant, one of the things that stuck with me was that babies LOVE their mom's voice and the bond they share with their mom singing to them will stay with them for a long time. I believe this so much, because my son will stare into my eyes in complete awe; He seems so happy that mom is taking the time to sing <3

"You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine away"

(I'm not sure if the second part is ACTUALLY how the song is "supposed" to go, but it's how I heard it and that's how I sing it to him...)

"The other night, dear
When I was sleeping
I dreamt I held you
In my arms
But when I woke, dear
My arms were empty
I just lay my head down and cry."

(I always repeat the first verse to end the song. I want him to remember the "happy part.")

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics
Some rap lyrics....

....This one covers some nice socioeconomic and political topics...:

Wreak havoc, beep beep it's mad traffic
Sleek and lavish people speaking, leaking to the maverick
He see it as just another felony drug arrest
Any day could be the one he pick the wrong thug to test
Slug through the vest, shot in the street
For pulling heat on a father whose baby's gotta eat
And when they get hungry, it ain't shit funny
Paid to interfere with how a brother get his money
Now, who's the real thugs, killers and gangsters?
Set the revolution, let the things bust, and thank us
When the smoke clear, you can see the sky again
There will be the chopped off heads of Leviathan

My friend, they call 'em strangers
Everybody talk to him end up in some danger
They stay...strange ways....can't reform 'em

They pray four times a day, they pray five
Whose ways is strange when it's time to survive?
Some will go of they own free will to die
Others take them with you when they blow sky high
What's the difference? all you get is lost children
While the bosses sit up behind the desk-- It costs billions
to blast humans in half, into captured arms
Only one side is allowed to have bombs
It's like making a soldier drop his weapon
Shooting him, and telling him to get to steppin'
Obviously, they came to portion of his fortune
Sounds to me like that old robbery, extortion

They stay...same game...strange ways....ya can't reform 'em

The Paradox Of Fools And Wise Men:
“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.” ― Bertrand Russell

RE: Favorite Song Lyrics
Here's another one for religion.

Another promise broken
Another falsehood thrown to the dogs
Time and again we swallow
Our throats torn by the barbed fruit of iniquity

On our knees we wither
Starving on a hollow phantom
Discarded playthings, we crave in vain
For the benign almighty lie

Fools that we are

Even as our star goes under
We cling to the noose that will break our necks
To the benighted psalms of priests drunk with conceit

Like in the valley of Hinnom
Murdered by divinity
Our grievance shakes the mountains
Our jilted souls became a pyre
The day the heavens part
God shall perish in our fire

When the final perfidy
Bleeds from the skies
Our abject eyes will see the truth

Death
Death from above

Forsaken lepers rot away
Away

Through profound pain comes profound knowledge.
Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto! Ridi del duol, che t'avvelena il cor!
