A more appropriate question might be "Does a heartbeat count as throwing a switch or using something electrical, since the heart generally answers to electrical impulses from the brain?" or What does a jewish doctor do if his patient requires an electrical shock after the deadline on a Saturday night?
I think all religions are so silly. It is sad how much power they hold.
Aliza will have to correct me here...

As far as I remember one Jewish friend telling me, if a Jewish doctor were the only one who could help, it would be OK for him/her to help someone in need. The sabbatical rules should be honored as much as possible, but saving someone's life takes precedence. So from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, Jewish doctors can still save lives. That's also why even Jews could get pig valves in their hearts if they absolutely need a replacement. (The valve thing was from a rabbi I saw on television.)

But again, Aliza will have to correct me.

Truly not impressed when you need digital circuitry in order to comply with thousand-year-old ordinances.

Only comply in the letter, but not the intent. It's all very self-serving and dishonest.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
