RE: Female circumcision on the rise in the US
If you actually read paradise lost I liked Satan. He seemed like a relatable character. At least so far, I'm only up to the part where he's trying to pass the gatekeeper Scilla and enter the real world. His speech in the fiery pit was laudable, and I found myself sympathizing with him.

Of course it was also racist, since EVERY God other than YHWH was in the pit. But what are you gonna do...

Anywho, back on topic.

I was reading some of the reviews for the 99 things that make atheists angry book, and I came across essentially the same argument that is being made here. That FGM is not the province of religion. Oh contraire! while it might not be the sole province of religion it is now almost exclusively practiced by religious groups. Indeed many sects of Islam consider it necessary, as do some sects of Christianity. Never mind how it has originated, religion is now the perpetrator of this atrocity.

And BECAUSE it is a religious ritual there are some that would look the other way. How is this acceptable? How can decent people look the other way when little girls are being mutilated in such a horrific way? How can this be tolerated in the name of "religious liberty" or "multiculturalism?"

Really? Are you saying this isn't in the Bible? Laugh out load

Seriously, name your cartoon source and disprove it!

Sorry, how is that racist? Consider

It's incredibly bigoted and close minded.

I might also be associating Hindus and Buddhists with easterners, while Milton was a white European.

But that does not make it racist. It is bigotry toward non-Christians - it is not racism.

I'm pretty sure woman don't have enough extra bits and pieces to be cutting off down there.

The clitoris... and its hood.

And sometimes the labia...

Also often they're stitched up down there so the opening is teeny.

It's totally a different thing for women and cannot in anyway be compared to what happens to guys.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

It is comparable at the level of human rights violation.

Here in Ireland FGM is relatively new. When the economy was going good we had an influx of immigrants from various African countries who brought this practice with them. It is believed up 3000 women underwent the procedure. A bill outlawing the practise was passed into law in 2012.
