Fertilizer ban? HUGE Explosion in a Texas factory
Please pay attention to the wording:

From SFGATE:

Fertilizer ban?

Authorities said the plant made materials similar to those used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

The fertilizer used in that attack, ammonium nitrate, makes big explosions, be they accidental or intentional said Neil Donahue, professor of chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. It also was used in the first bombing attempt at the World Trade Center in 1993.

The Chemical Safety Board has not investigated a fertilizer plant explosion before, but Managing Director Daniel Horowitz said "fertilizers have been involved in some of the most severe accidents of the past century."

Fertilizers like potassium nitrate are already restricted in many places. You can't buy it in my part of Canada unless you have a license and special order from a company in bulk for agriculture/industry or overpriced jars for school chemistry. And a lot of the stuff you can buy for fertilizer has ingredients in it to make it ineffective as an oxidizer.

It sucks. I wanted to make rocket fuel once, but I couldn't find the ingredients anywhere.

If something can be destroyed by the truth, it might be worth destroying.

Why is the first reaction to this, "Ban fertilizer!!!!!!"?

E 2 = (mc 2)2 + (pc )2
614C → 714N + e + ̅νe
2 K(s) + 2 H2O(l) → 2 KOH(aq) + H2 (g) + 196 kJ/mol
It works, bitches.

I live about a few hour's drive from this town, sad what happened.

Bury me with my guns on, so when I reach the other side - I can show him what it feels like to die.
Bury me with my guns on, so when I'm cast out of the sky, I can shoot the devil right between the eyes.

Gun proliferation advocate trying to be clever. "Item X could be utilized to kill people too, therefore guns are okay." But, as expected, it failed in more ways than one. One being the 'reaction' is reserved for a scenario where bombs utilized fertilizers, not a fertilizer plant accident.

Fun fact: the Norwegian mass murderer/terrorist laid out in his manifesto of ways to get around the restrictions on fertilizers for bomb making. Hopefully these loopholes are taken care of, in all countries.

Actually my first reaction was: "holy fuck! What a mess! That sucks!"

Then when I was dosing fertilizer on my tank.... I thought about a ban. KNO3 my main fert is banned in certain areas already!
:/

About guns, I don't have firearms. But, I disagree with disarming law abiding citizens. Then only criminals and useless cops are going to be armed. 2nd amendment is kind of a joke today, citizens would never be able to fight the Feds.
