See the problem? It may be an insuperable problem as well. I thin the only way to make a dent in the Lynch Mob version would be for the officer to immediately surrender his camera to an impartial body, people trusted by both sides.

We are a "Lynch Mob" kind of society, we always have been. Sad

I said "Really".

Texas 696,241 km²

Australia 7.692 million km². Big Grin

I consider Aussies honorary Texans.

And we ask cops to stick their heads in the noose.

No, we don't ask, we demand. They are the authority, they hold the power and they must be held to a higher not lesser accountability.

And for that we pay them a janitor's wage.

I don't know any janitors who started out making $49k/year, but that's what Travis County sheriffs deputies start at -- no experience, fresh out of the academy, not counting overtime.

That was just off-hand for "not paying them enough".

That's not how cops work.

They don't need a court order to arrest someone. They don't need a court order to shoot someone.

They HAVE to be given the power to do such things in order to do their job.

But -- they're supposed to exercise restraint - and only use such powers when needed.

The right to film someone isn't any greater than the right to breath......

That's why the cops are subject to judicial review.

4th Amendment, dude.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,
against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants
shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Arbitrarily seizing the recording and equipment is unreasonable search and seizure.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Didn't SCOTUS already rule on this?

There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. -Camus
