First Atheist Congressman
There is a man by the name of James Woods running for congress in the very Republic state of Arizona. He has openly discloused his atheism. Here's the link to the article as well as his bio page.

Not the first. There was an old man around Oakland that was a congressman for years and openly atheist. I believe he's no longer there anymore.

Unfortunately, regardless of where he stands on issues, most people won't get past that he is an atheist. Dodgy

Yep, their bad written article misleads the public. They admit Stark openly admitted being an atheist while in congress, but still had 2 successful reelections after that. Which makes Stark then, an openly atheist person running for congress, he just was an incumbent.
This is the first previously unelected open atheist running for congress... but all those additives corrections are too difficult for CNN.

I recall there was a female congresswoman in Arizona a few years ago that was suspected of being atheist and also bisexual, but I believe she's never confirmed such claims.

RE: First Atheist Congressman
I think that if an atheist runs for Congress, their lack of belief shouldn't be exposed as a method to get in. Once they are elected, either unveil then that you are an atheist, or wait until after you out of office to say so. That way, the job can get done without needless obstructions in either getting in office or getting your job done.

It would certainly correct people on atheists being devil worshippers, bad people, etc at the cost of not being forthcoming about your own lack of belief in gods.
