First Poem I've done in a loooong while.
~Farewell Friend Ottoman~
“Rally men! Rally yourselves forth to me!” The Emperor of the Romans voice beckonedAs children, women, and soldiers fled The Ottomans had breached the cities defensesSoldiers forged their strength and courage anew Upon hearing their lord’s dauntless callSo to their Basileus they mustered around Ready to fight, to take back their wall “Forward men! Forward to the breach!” The emperor cried, unsheathing his sword Throwing off his regalia he led that final charge The Romans who could fight following close behind
They pushed the Ottomans back to the battlements And when glorious victory they were about to graspConstantine with valor and benevolence untold Found that he was looking down the barrel of an arquebus Honor bound he brandished his sword before his face And unflinching he bravely strode towards the Janissary The bells of the Hagia Sophia rang as the battle wagedA single crack of gunfire, and the last Roman Emperor fell So I've long since contemplated the very likely possibility that the last Roman Emperor was probably killed by a bullet. As his unit was fighting the Janissaries in the siege of Byzantium in 1453. Years earlier Mehmed II had outfitted the Janissaries with the cutting edge rifles of his time. (which by today's standards are so primitive it's sad) but back then gunpowder played a decisive role in the fall of Byzantium and the Byzantine/Roman Empire. Scholars don't like calling the Byzantines as Romans because it hurts their pride in history. I myself used to be historically prejudice and held a grudge against the Ottomans and the other caliphates who helped bring down the Roman Empire. But then I realized that the Ottomans weren't to blame, but rather the lack of poor leadership among the Emperors. So anyways here's my first poem in ages. This isn't my first poem of Rome, I made another about 5 years ago. Here that one is. Feel free to judge them both. Behold the crescent moon,
As it shines on old city ruins, Rome and those of her children, That stretch from dense forests to sandy dunes. Oh so grand was that of her might, Now lays quietly beneath the starry night, All acroos Europe her splendor sleeps, Such a marvelous, wonderful yet sadly sight. Where massive battles were fought on grassy fields, when men wielded both sword and shield, And thousands would die for the cause unkown, Glorious Rome, her fate was forever sealed. For stone is all that is left of Roman attire, But what little of what was kept so many admire, The mark she put on this divided world, And so this poem of Rome was set on fire. |

Nice work.
There is a poem thread Nappa. If you like I can move this to there? The same colour blood just pass through our veins and tears taste the same when they splash on your face. Cant separate and still carry the weight, gotta heal get away from the fear and the hate. Gotta shake free from them chains, you see what remains, just a human being at the end of the day. |
