It currently estimated at 4.54 billion. Sorry, I thought you meant to imply that young earth atheists thought the universe was only 4 billion years old to match the Earth or something.

Ehehehe... this stupid I did *not* commit yer honour. The other one was me but not this one.

Incidentally IIRC the theory before it was discovered that there were 2 populations of Cepheid variables and not one was in a bit of chaos because according to the then current astronomy the universe *was* only 2 billion years old, and the Earth 4 billion (according to the geologists). Got that from Feynman's autobiography I think.
