China will not attack the US.
Russian will not attack the US.
Iran will not attack the US. We might attack them though... Still not a threat.

Do you know how many air craft carriers china has? One, they retrofitted and they can't even land planes on it.
Do you know how many the US has? 67

If you think the US is in any danger of being invaded or attacked, then you are an a huge pussy.

You forgot the US's allies. Britain, Canada, rest of Europe, Australia etc...

67?????? Try 10 carriers on for size.

USS Nimitz CVN-68
USS Eisenhower CVN-69
USS Carl Vinson CVN-70
USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71
USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72
USS George Washington CVN-73
USS John Stennis CVN-74
USS Harry Truman CVN-75
USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76
USS George W. Bush CVN-77

And the last thing this nation needs along with China having the upper hand to it economically is to have the upper hand militarily as well.

Is an invasion or danger to the US imminent? No. But we cannot say what will happen in 5 years. Or 10. Or 20 years down the road. And imminent crisis is the last time you want to find out you've been caught with your pants down and your dick flaccid, idiot.

And we can spend ten years in UN committees while the bureaucrats endlessly argue over what action to take while a war rages. No, the US handles its own defense. If the allies can help, so be it. But we can handle our affairs, if need be.

That's a.k.a. as being lulled to sleep, my friend! Big Grin

FYI: it takes the US six years (and 20 billion) to build one Ronald Reagan class aircraft carrier battle group.
That takes China 3 weeks...!
(In fact they started to build – today – a skyscraper that is going to be higher* than Dubai's Burj-al-Khalifa and they plan to deliver by April... in 3 months!).

*almost twice the height of the 'Freedom Tower'/new WTC in New York!

Total bullshit!
The US has 10 operational aircraft carriers. And 3 under construction. None of which they can afford.

Some of you asked why we need a new fighter programme. Here's the reason

RE: Flying white elephant is DOA
Do we really need 10 aircraft carriers with another 3 on the way, when there are only 21 of these monsters in the world? 21 total, and we own half of them. Each one of them has more conventional firepower than the entire air forces of most countries.

My problem is we're spending too much money on a military we can't afford to use, in more ways than one. It's bloated and corrupt, pushed by weapon and defense contractors that get fat off of taxpayer money to deliver needless projects over budget. When we have such a disproportionate amount tied up in the military, it is too easily a go-to option for diplomacy. It lets us act like goddamn cowboys, which is more trouble than its worth.

Cut the military budget in half and we would STILL spend more than twice what anybody else's puts into their militaries. We spend as much in a single month in Afghanistan as we did on the entire Apollo project, from R&D up through Apollo 18. If we took half of our military budget and put half of that (1/4) into reducing the debt and the other half (1/4) into NASA, we'd have a manned Mars program right now.

We would be leading the world by example, not trying to scare it or beat it into submission...

Well the carriers are money well spent in a defense budget. Very effective portable cans of whoop-ass and staging bases you can park off the shore of any country and reach 85% of the earth's surface. I'd buy the Ford-class ships as well as continuing to maintain out current fleet of Nimitz-class ships. Maybe just reduce from 10 to 7 active ships.....
