For Yakherder - or other afficianados
Thought you might like this one....

I got this out to do some tuning up with some match ammo I'd cooked up.

It's a Serbian Mauser barreled in .257 Roberts that I built a couple years ago.

As you can see -- a three shot group that will fit nicely under a quarter - at 100 yards.
Two of the shots butterflied.

87g Hornady match bullet , 39 grain IMR 4064.

A perfect deer rifle. (yeah, I know - shiny pretty stocks ain't "tactical" - the deer don't know that...)

What kind of wood is that on the stock? It's got cool figuring.

Nice work.

It's a chunk of maple that I got years ago.

The pistolgrip cap is a different type maple.

She's a beauty. Nice grouping, too.

I've never shot .257 Roberts. I'm guessing it's kind of like 22-250?

Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.

Looks fun to shoot. I do like the design of the stock. You accomplished the pistol grip effect without making it look "scary" Smile While I haven't really been much into hunting since I left home, I know a number of people in Vermont who swear by .257 Roberts as being the best deer hunting ammo. If I want to be a true prepper I suppose I probably should add something more appropriate to my small arsenal.

That’s a nice rifle, Biker. I’ve never had a .257 Roberts, but deep in the bowels of the big safe I have a German made 26” barrel Weatherby Mark V in .257 Weatherby Magnum complete with a period Weatherby 2x7 scope. I bought it used for $900 in 1983 at the Karlsruhe rod & gun. The last time it was fired was fall of 86 when I used it to take a big two prong buck at what we stepped of at little over 500 yards. The 26” barrel is rare, and I think it is worth about $4k today, but I’d never sell it.

The recoil is on par with 22-250 or 250 savage.... Note -- no butt padding....

It's a vintage "Herters" hard plastic butt plate I was saving for just such a project.

Another cool feature -- receiver markings in Cyrillic...

Awesome. Butt padding is for wusses.

I take my Mosin Nagant out to the range all the time and don't need no stinking butt padding.

Oh, that thing has Cyrillic markings on it too.

To drive tent pegs....
