Forced To Marry at 11, Former Child Bride Speaks Out.

Florida on the news... again Facepalm

I'm not a parent nor do I want to be one but I'm pretty sure this is NOT what a parent should've done

The more one asserts their own unquestioned preconceived beliefs, the more demanding I will be for empirical evidence for I will accept nothing else in place of it

Quote: Just this month, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed a law that would have outlawed child marriage without exception.

From the article in the description. Yet another reason to have Chris Christie on the shitlist.

How? How could this even happen?! Disgusting. That poor girls life... she must feel like she's missed out on so much. She was abused and couldn't even make up her own mind about where to go afterwards...

That is a good question. Even so, if they are in a large secluded family, who knows how many cases like this are in the USA?

Not all of them.

At least, not anymore. Dodgy

So now they just marry their victims?
How long before someone mixes that with polygamy? Dodgy

RE: Forced To Marry at 11, Former Child Bride Speaks Out.
A government clerk in Tampa, Florida, refused to marry the 11-year-old, even though this was legal in the state, so the wedding party went to nearby Pinellas County, where the clerk issued a marriage license. The license lists her birth date, so officials were aware of her age.

Not surprisingly, the marriage didn’t work out—two-thirds of marriages of underage girls don’t last, one study found—but it did interrupt Johnson’s attendance at elementary school. Today she is campaigning for a state law to curb underage marriages, part of a nationwide movement to end child marriage in America.

Meanwhile, children 16 and under are still being married in Florida at a rate of one every few days.
