The would appear to be a fair description of a community.

Firstly, your definition of forum is rejected. If that is the definition of a forum then TTA is not a forum.

Actually, that's an interwebz definition, not mine own.
I think there are a number of issues. Liberal (small L) vs. conservative is just one and don't worry bro' we know where you stand.

But I think you are rejecting the forum option, not the definition.
If I can take the liberty, you are saying that we have a forum within a community as opposed to being a forum that fulfills the needs of a community.
A successful community (probably) and a successful forum (definitely; see the mother of all parliaments) needs a balance of both. Long may that continue.
The Lawn Bowls analogy is a good one and therefore if I may extend it...
Quote:So if someone new comes along and wants to play some lawn bowls,, that's absolutely fine, Encouraged even. Then they have to accept...
A conservative would reject any attempts to change the rules of the game (e.g. uproar over that newfangled 20/20 cricket etc.) or the type or even the brand of biscuits.
A liberal will embrace change at the risk of throwing out all the good stuff.
However, slow, incremental, continual adaptation over generations is hardly noticed (I'm sure there's a word for that).

Perhaps, in KC's childrens' children's epoch, there might be a vote to drop the "A" from the TheThinkingAtheist Forum Community.

Consider

No, I'm saying by those definitions we are a community.
Some people come here for the single purpose of ramming facts down people's throats, but for the majority most people come here to talk about topics that interest them and have a bit of a joke and a laugh (and a fucking cry sometimes too) along the way.
It's no different then any social gathering event thing. It's not just for whatever that group is for (ie: The lawn bowls) it's that social shit too.

A forum by that definition is a high school debate.

RE: Forum or Community
I came here for the forum but I stayed here 'cause I liked the community.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

'liked', past tense.

RE: Forum or Community
As for (3) I personally associate community with tribalism which I further associate with pleasing others as a sort of duty. I think the diversity of views presented in T.T.A best expresses a forum.
