I understand your point thank you and I agree completely.

Also it appears that some blogs have been banned from "freethought" Appears mind you, I have no idea. Sorry if this is a problem, I felt it was important to discuss because it is an issue that one, doesn't seem to be going away and two, seems to make people lose all common sense. I honestly don't think that hiding from the issue is helpful so I thought I would speak up. Because it effects the larger aspects in the short term.

I urge you to go to TAM and work for change. I think SkepChick should, as well. Ask DJ Grothe for a clarification of his remarks or institute a recall election.

Staying away is not the solution.
Yes, I believe you are correct. I just really get agitated with people that think the best solution is to make more rules and regs. Thank you very much for your perspective.

Motherfucker, I said a link. I didn't say, gee, dood, link up the whole fucking atheist internet. Big Grin

So, where you at in this pile-up? And I saw Cristina up there - if you talking smack about Criss, this conversation is over. Tongue
Sorry about that.

I am on the side of common sense. Rad and thunderf00t seem to see eye to eye on this and I think that their points are correct.

RE: "Freethought" Blogs drama
Dunno why you are getting upset by this - unless you engage in harassment yourself it's got nothing to do with you.

That goes for all people who are shooting their mouths off and making a huge mountain out of a mole hill that is limited in scope.

If anyone would harass me, I would NAME AND SHAME. Firstly, he likely wouldn't do it agin (most important in my eyes). Secondly, it wouldn't scar a whole community but just the culprit(s).

Since there is no naming and shaming going on, I must assume that this is a person with some power over the victim(s).

Now one really has to name and shame, a powerful person who has been rebuffed is likely to work behind the scenes to get you to go away anyways.

Not speaking up and not naming when a bully of any kind targets you is just stupid. But if you're going to speak up, make sure you target who needs to be targeted and not everyone.

This whole thing is a disgrace and has been handled very badly by ALL.

It wouldn't keep me from attending, but not knowing who to stay away from, I'd likely bring some tear gas to defend myself. And perhaps I'd gas the wrong person, since I would be on edge and that leads to misinterpretation.

So get it over with already, tell whodunnit and be done with it.

One of the biggest reasons I pay
attention to this and find it frustrating is that it seems to me to
be a big divide and conquer issue. As inadvertent as it may be it
still is important to pay attention too. If there is such a divide on
opinions with this matter, then I do consider it important. The point
is that this is being made public and a few people are blowing it out
of proportion. When someone tried to come in with a common sense
approach they were to the best of my knowledge banned. I think that
thunderf00t had a very valid point and is banned makes me wonder
about the issue. I think I really can speak for almost everyone in
that we all agree that we do not want to see anyone hurt ever,
whether it is at a conference, bar, or whatever. I do think that
people go way too far with all of this politically correct nonsense.
I would hate to think that some poor guy get made fun of or
condemned, because he said or did something terminally stupid. There
are times where it is a more serious matter and those are usually
dealt with. I just have concerns that people now a days are going to
nuclear options for “punishment” instead of just having a good
talk. I think some people need to screw up in order to learn. I think
that for most people have enough experience to know the difference
between a real threat and a nonexistent one. I think that this has
the potential to make nonexistent threats and make people paranoid. I
think that is a problem worth discussing.

RE: "Freethought" Blogs drama
Yesterday I was sanding the canoe so mostly, here, I was just doing drive-by snark.

Today, however, I started with my bias - Cristina Rad. Thumbsup

Your bias, it seems, is one typical of a certain type of atheist - the "lack of belief" believers. Where there is a lack of belief, there is nothing, where there is nothing, there is people making something - well - outta nothing. That's the problem, here; the double standard. "Lack of belief" is not a solid foundation, it's a fucking lack, so this kinda "I thought we were better than this" attitude is baseless.

Let's get back to the important thing here. Cristina. That girl is sexual harassment. I mean, I'm just a self-aware penis; without will of my own in the face of such evolutionary imperative. Which gets to the heart of the matter. People needing people; what happens, is people get needy. People like Cristina are favored by evolution, the rest of us have to work at it. And where we lack the attributes of a Cristina, often we are lead to a least common denominator - drama.

Drama attracts. Those that perpetuate the drama with controversy become attractive. So what's really going on? Are you at war with yourself over indulging in some guilty little pleasure, or are you actually thinking there's "a right answer" here? The only kind of "right answer" I'm coming up with is that girls should be culturally conditioned to kick guys in the nuts, and boys should get hormonal distemper shots.

You have some interesting and relevant
perspective on this issue. I thank you for your perspective on this.

The main issue and the reason I
brought it up is that it seems to be a reflection of the problems we
all face moving forward. What I mean by that is that if there is a
growing rift of disagreement by the more in the spotlight of us than
perhaps we should call attention to it. Personally I see this
situation as they are being lazy in how the handle it. Make more
rules, increase paranoia about people, and make a self full filling
prophecy of the whole thing. A part of being in the media industry is
that I have a unique perspective on how ads work. What this means is
that I know how people are tricked into buying what ever people are
selling. People generally have an idea that they are marketed to.
What they generally don't know or don't realize is that the constant
bombardment of advertising that they get everyday does effect the
final result.

For instance we will take politics. We
right now are living in a pretend two party system and I do mean
pretend. The social issues are there to distract the public. It gives
the public something to focus on so no one asks any real questions.
It is all theater for the public and almost all the politicians care
about one thing and one thing only. Money. The real story is that
wall-street likes predictable markets and you get predictable markets
with right wing nonsense. (Also a large percent of right wing tends
to lean towards belief in the supernatural.) When people are scared
they do stupid things and in most cases predictable things. The
markets love this. If you take where things were with pay and cost of
living in the sixties and draw a line to where it is today, minimum
wage should be at around $25.00 an hour and not $7.25. Do the math
looking at top executive pay to what the “average American” makes
the difference will be clear. (Imagine what the world would be like
if are costs stayed about where they are but our income was where it
should be? What do people do when they are not scared anymore? They
question things, they try to make things better in the world around
them.) People don't realize it because they are too caught up with
social issues. As an example look at some of the trick language in
the news. Listen to what they actually say and not what you implied
that they said. “Job Creator” means people that are rich. “Small
Businesses” is a distraction from what would really help the
economy, sorry small businesses don't cut it when it comes to how
much corporations can employ. These are lawyer tricks of language and
if you look at the numbers, most of the politicians have lawyer
backgrounds. Make no mistake we no longer have a government after the
citizens united decision.

What does this have to do with the
sexism fiasco? A lot actually. Humans imitate behavior bad or good it
doesn't matter. It is on of the ways we learn and evolve.
Subconsciously we pick up our habits from other humans usually
behavior that we see others use to survive. This is the issue that is
being ignored by people we all like to listen to. Why are smart
people not using common sense to handle these issues? Why are there a
large percentage that loses their minds one the emotional aspect of
it? It is troublesome for me and it is an environment that I would
like to avoid. If there can be such decent with the people that are
in the forefront of the public view, then what could the implications
be for the rest of us? One of the reasons I decided to join this
forum and talk is because I felt it was an environment where I could
express my opinions and debate topics with people that should be able
to come to an understanding. An environment where I don't have to
worry if I question someones beliefs in nonsense. We has a human race
are better than this. We are at the beginnings of a new age of reason
if we can manage to imitate the better aspects of our nature. I put
drama in the title for many different reasons. People need to be
cautious what they dismiss because of a word. We need to learn to
read between the lies. “People are not dumb, they just get dumb
media.” -Henry Rollins

Hot chick gets hit on in a bar. Wow, whodda thunk it? Dunno why she felt the need to ask if that was sexual harassment, stay the fuck out of bars hot chick.

It was fun to watch a couple of ugly ass men scientists go at it, though. Probably just their way of hitting on hot chick. Either get a law degree or go back to your science fellas.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Minor update just for the sake of
clarity. Thunderf00t was banned from the freethought blog. Seriously
makes me wonder about being involved at all with any of this atheist
movement stuff. It maybe me or it gets hard to tell sometimes, but it
seems to get cold in this forum too.
