Gas mask (Thammuz might like this)
@ Thammuz
I was wondering why your avatar always depicts someone with a gas-mask?

anyway...
I found these videos of some weirdos turning, Russian cold war era gas masks into a kazoo and preforming as "The chemical wartet".
Nightmarishly hilarious Smile

That's what I was thinking. Try Beano. It's a lot less inconvenient.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

You may Big Grin

Actually, I love post-apocalytic and dystopic themes as a whole.

A gas mask is one of these strange things that should show weakness (inability to breathe normally in this case), but is scary for most people (hiding facial traits, voice etc.).

I also love the half-life series. Not for being a shooter, but for the dystopic rendering. Sticking to gas masks and outfits; below is a "civil protection" officer (whose main job is to harass citizens). No visible signs of humanity with this uniform.

SS-uniforms worked in a similar way. The face was visible, but the bodies were smartly tailored to appear taller and more authoritative. Combine that with the black colour, death's head and runic symbols, and you have a uniform that inspires fear and demands respect (even if it's worn by racist idiots).

SIDESTEP: I also like the 'doublethink' term of "civil protection". Just like Orwell's ministry of peace whose primary concern was war. It might be somewhat exagerrated and fictional, but you can clearly see how people use and abuse similar terms for political purposes in the real world. Remember the 'war on terror' & 'axis of evil'? No possibility of discussing ethics or right or wrong; everything is in the name. Even if the actions arre bad, giving them a good name will restrain people from opposing it. The 'Patriot act' is an even better example. Give something the right name, and people's vision about it will change.

Ok, I'm going a little off track here. Just wanted to point out that there are some symbols and terms that people fear and/or respect, even though they shouldn't (in the logical way).

I use that knowledge in a way. I know I'm a vulnerable human, that I have flaws and all. I just don't like to show them to the world. gas mask here, uniform and grumpy attitude elsewhere. But as Seneca said: "No one can wear a mask for very long". I just like to keep it on long enough. Gotta think about my rep Tongue
But my mom knows it's all for show Big Grin. Doesn't mattter, as long as my soldier boys think their chief doesn't fart, sweat, suffer or has difficulties understanding things sometimes.

I like half-life myself, and episode 3 is coming out at the end of this year. I haven't gotten around to fallout 3 but I heard it's really good!

I thought you where in the asbestos removal busyness... Smile

No srsly...
I kind of knew this was something you thought over...

I used to have a Belgian interbellum era gas-mask I found in an abandoned fortress somewhere.

In one of my "I want less useless stuff in my life" craze, I threw it away.
