Gator snatches two year old from Disney Lagoon
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/15/us/alligat...y-florida/

Bad week for Orlando. Sad

This is so disheartening. Apparently a two-year old boy was wading in a lagoon in Disney World when a gator snatched him. I don't know where his family is from, but signs were clearly posted and every Floridian knows that you don't ever get into a body of fresh water because almost every body of water is connected to the everglades. Gators can, and do get into canals and lakes miles and miles away from the everglades.

Horrible.

The family is from Nebraska, according to the one story I heard.

Apparently both the parents tried to save him.

Damn. Don't even know what to say.

Were there no signs posted? I should say "in that area". Pity no one else spoke up....since there were others on the beach and no one else went into the water....

Don't get me wrong it's totally tragic for that family.

But signs that read No Swimming and Beware with an image of an alligator are probably there for a reason.

There were signs. It is a man-made lagoon. The kid and his father were walking in the water, about a foot deep.

The father had his hands on the gator, but couldn't get the kid out.

Christina Grimmie was gunned down by a nut so this 'thing' of threes is satisfied.

What a horrible tragedy.

Tragic. The truth is I have seen some parents who take a cavalier attitude to the safety of their children. Like this is Utopia.

I can only imagine what the father is feeling right now ...

One of my friends from work has this attitude. A local child drowned in a nearby river and they posted about it and how tragic it was. Later, they wanted to camp on our beach lot.
My wife offered to buy life jackets for their little ones, and they insisted they could get some.
Next come the facebook Facepalm posts of the kids playing in the surf without life jackets.

People who are not from Florida just do not realize how serious it is to stay out of lakes and canals. I remember when I was growing up, this family from up north moved in next door, and they put up a tire swing on their tree so the kids could swing into the lake. The neighbors caught sight of the boys playing in the water, and they came running out with arms flailing.

Tire swing came down and those boys never got into the water again, that's for sure.

Massive gators are pulled out of people's pools, and they bask in people's yards all the time. Their favorite place to be is in shallow water because they get the heat of the sun in the warm water.
