It's not when religion is part of tradition. part of a country's history. Then there is no distinction they are one and the same.
Yeah I can agree with that but there is still a difference.
ie: The Monarchy way back when had dictator status and power. Today however it is very very different. (Or ever since the Magnacarter (spelling?) for that matter).
You see, we keep them around but we only as a figure head, a symbol.
Where as with religion, it is the EXACT same BS that it was a thousand years ago.
That is the difference.
I mean yeah the Pope's power is somewhat less, I mean he can't force massing of arms to take over the middle east several times like he used to be able to do, looking at you Pope Urban, but I mean religion in general.
Religion in daily life has remained the same BS. And the difference between how the Queen effects your daily life is drastically different to that of how religion does. ie: You're not gonna be say anti-gay marriage because of the Queen, but you would because of religion.

My argument is tradition for the sake of tradition is pointless. It doesn't matter what the tradition is. A tradition is still a tradition.
Continuing a tradition just for the sake of it is utterly pointless. Something you agreed with when it was something you disagreed with (religion). But when its something you are in favor for then its a good argument to keep the tradition going.

The queen is the head (Supreme Governor) of a religious organisation that can't get its stance of gays right. although most seem to be anti gay. She may not come out and say it (mainly because the monarchy can't interfere in politics) but i'll bet she goes with whatever stance the majority of the church of England goes for.

Behold the power of the force!

Actually it is.
Throwing Christians to the lions was traditional and popular.
Sacrificing virgins to the volcano god was traditional and popular.
Infant genital mutilation is traditional and popular.

Need I go on?
