I understand that it would be hard to develop because evolution is extremely broad and games tend to have much more specific rules, but if there is one, it would be very cool to mess with evolution of the organisms you create. It would be similar to a genetic algorithm, but once it starts, you would still have control and the different populations would interact.

No, actually, you don't.

"[A]nyone looking for explicit "Kill the unbelievers!"-style content to justify their fear of the game won't find it here."

"Many groups have made inaccurate statements about this game that need to be corrected. For one thing, it is not particularly violent. While there are violent aspects of the game, the game makes it clear that shooting is the last resort."

http://pc.ign.com/articles/745/745956p1.html

"To keep the balance of power in your favor, you'll have to find non-violent ways to avoid getting killed. Your units will definitely fight back in a life or death situation but, for the most part, you want to either avoid your enemies or have a ready plan to convert to your side using musicians and disciples. This gets much harder as the game progresses."

"Conversion to Christianity in the game is not depicted as forcible in nature, and violence is not rewarded in the game."

Quote:I am not sure if it is still being sold as it received absolutely horrible reviews and bad sales, though.

It is being sold, it received both good and bad reviews (like other games), and sales were undoubtedly negatively affected by the bad press based on the false claims about the game.

RE: God Games
I enjoyed Black and White for awhile but I never finished it.

I recall there was a game called, Bible: The Game, I was interested in seeing how that one played out. I doubt you played as God and more likely were Noah herding animals into an arc or maybe more interestingly played as Lot and got to offer your daughters to the horny mob of Sodom and then get drunkenly raped by them yourself.

There was some interesting Jesus Nintendo game too.

Technically all the Sims and Simcity/SimEarth games are good God games, of course, just like God you can click that little free will button and nothing that happened was your fault until you "remember" your games on and see your chosen people are about to burn to death.

RE: God Games
There is a new one out on xbox live arcade called Dust. Where you reshape the landscape to save the Villagers from natural disasters. And to help them complete tasks. I'm not usually into this genre of game but I think it looks quite interesting.

Ive got Dust on the PC, Ive played through 4 or 5 levels so far, but got dragged back into my current mmorg. Its a little fiddily, but it is an interesting game and theres some cool things you can do. I originally bought it because I thought it may use a "life" style mechanic, sadly it doesnt. None the less its different enough to be worth a look, and the game play is obtuse enough that you discover new and better ways to do things without being obtuse enough to be frustrating.

Cant believe no ones mentioned Populous or Power monger for that matter. I played a lot of Populous and the imagintivly titled sequel Populous 2.

I'd like to bring up AoM. Why not smite the nonbelievers with some lightening bolts, or send a horde of Minotaurs?

As for Spore, I greatly enjoyed it. I wish they had developed it further.
