ew Sadcryface

That sounds.... iky.

The Eve part sounds ok. Couldn't they think of something other than Mitochondrial? Who makes this shit up? Undecided
All prokaryote cells have mitochondria, organelles that do the conversion of energy. Current theory holds that these were probably once bacteria but in our distant evolutionary past formed a symbiotic relationship with a host cell.

All of the mitochondria in your cells came from your mother, hers from her mother, and so on. Mitochondrial DNA is separate from your cells' DNA. Logically, we can trace the mitochondrial DNA of all humans back to a single female - Mitochondrial Eve.

Males have a Y chromosome, females do not. With the same analysis, we can deduce the existence of Y-chromosome Adam. He and Eve were not a couple.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Oh, I know all that... mitochondrial membrane accepts electrons...

I'm just making an observation; ... human biological stuff... it always sounds ... just so... drippy... and gooey. Until it gets to the good stuff ... the subatomic stuff. Neutrinos, protons, fermions, electrons ... all sound so sleek and shinny... slick & bouncy, blips.
I want my Eve to be perky ... not dragged along.... by some slow, cud chewing, mouthful of "Mitochondrial" blah.
Maybe a little brevity would help.... they could have called it Mito Eve! Smile

These biologists... these guys need to get out more. Just sayin'. Shy

Hmmm, I always thought 'Mitochondrial Eve' rather poetic. Drinking Beverage
However 'Y-chromosome Adam' really needs some help from the marketing department. Dodgy

No kidding. That's just pretentious ... at best.
Consider

Unless they meant it to be a question: Y-chromosome, Adam? Blink

Pretentious
adjective
attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed.

It's just a letter, after all. Dodgy

Read it like three times. Best part was "how we violated parity in an afternoon," or some such. That was good shit. Thumbsup

RE: God Particle
One of the most important discoveries ever and you know that the only press coverage it's gonna get (here anyway, this country is so fucking stupid) is MAYBE (as in, if they air it at all) 30seconds before the 5minute article on that dog that dialed 111 (our version of 911) and saved the old hag from dieing or some shit like that.

Why do they have to drag religious allusions into important science topics:
