God really loves bling
If there are any geologists on TTA prepare to rip you hair out because this is nuts. Answersingenisis claims that Rubies and Sapphires were made special by god.

"God’s Word gives these two stones special attention. Indeed, rubies and sapphires are mentioned more often than diamonds.how rubies and sapphires were made."

"Only special conditions, initiated by the Flood, could have produced these rare beauties."

I'm not a geologist but this article is ridiculous. Facepalm

https://answersingenesis.org/geology/roc...sapphires/

They go on to talk about "creation geologists" (isn't that like being short and tall at the same time?) and explain that rubies and sapphires are a product of the flood.

If this interpretation is correct, the biblical worldview explains why rubies and sapphires are so rare—their formation is restricted to unique conditions when God judged the earth. It also helps to explain why sapphires will be in the New Jerusalem. They are not just pretty reminders of God’s creativity, but they serve as eternal reminders of God’s righteousness, judgment, and mercy. Even today, we can wear such gems as a witnessing tool and as a personal reminder of God’s transforming power on our behalf.

I made the mistake of reading the "What is science?" section to the left of the linked article too. Facepalm

Geology.com :"Most gem-grade corundum forms in metamorphic rocks such as schist or gneiss and igneous rocks such as basalt or syenite. However, gem corundums are rarely mined from the rocks in which they form. Mining small gems from hard rock is possible, but it is very expensive, and many of the gems are broken during the mining process. Fortunately, corundum is very hard and resistant to weathering. In many areas, natural weathering and erosion have liberated the stones and carried them into streams over long periods of geologic time.

Today, the gems are mined from these stream sediments. Their high specific gravity relative to other sediment particles often causes currents to concentrate them in small placer deposits. Most rubies and sapphires are produced by washing the gravels of these stream deposits. This work is often done by hand because the deposits are small and irregular in shape and character. These deposits are often located in countries when wages are very low and artisanal mining is prevalent.

Noteworthy locations where gem-quality corundums have been produced include Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, China, Australia, Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Malawi."

BTW, please consider changing your OP title to "Answers in Genesis outdoes the stupid again" so it comes up in a Google search. Thumbsup

That is an interesting article, I always wonder whether these so-called scientists actually believe this stuff or are they just playing to the ignorami that the Christian rank and file consist of to profit off of them?

It looks like they're running a con-game on the ignorant masses, they don't believe in their silly psuedo science, but it does generate a means for a "prophet" to profit.

RE: God really loves bling
As a Professional Geologist, I can honestly say that this isn't the stupidest thing that AiG has put forth. Yes, I know that's surprising but you have to take it in the context of all their other idiocy. In that light, this one barely moves the needle above a 3/10.

The blather about sparklies in the Bible in the first paragraph or two is irrelevant. The subsequent explanation of where corundum and its gem-quality variants originate is reasonably accurate if somewhat rudimentary. A quick search on Google Scholar would have bulked up their references impressively. It hardly seems like they're trying.

Where they fall into the botomless abyss of eternal facepalm is where they link it up with catastrophic plate tectonics. For the uninitiated, Catastrophic Plate Tectonics is AiG's latest "scientific" attempt at explaining how the flood happened. Like all such attempts, it ignore some minor details like (1) the fact that it's physically impossible and (2) if it were the consequences would destroy the world.

Here are a couple of links to their Olympic grade idiocy. Please remember to don full mental protective gear before clicking.

Can Catastrophic Plate Tectonics Explain Flood Geology?
A Catastrophic Breakup: A Scientific Look at Catastrophic Plate Tectonics

I can provide a detailed vivisection of that foolishness if you're interested but the Coles notes version is that they try and run plate tectonics at the speed of a brisk jog to both create the flood and get rid of the waters afterward. This lets them remove the old, deep ocean basins and replace the with young, shallow ones, flooding the world. A few of the trivial details that they gloss over include:
- Exposing rock to strain rates that absurd will reduce the crust to gravel, melt the fragments and, in some of the more spactacular cases, convert the lava to a blinding sheet of plasma.
- Resurfacing two thirds of the planet by volcanism in such a ridiculously short time span liberates more than enough energy to boil the world's oceans by several orders of magnitude. There will be no flood on account of a lack of liquid water.
- The atmosphere will be converted to a supercritical fluid, largely composed of water with traces of volcanic gases, none of which will be friendly to life as we know it. The whole mess will make the Venusian happy that they live some place temperate.

Needless to say, Noah, the managerie and all traces of gopher wood are utterly obliterated.

RE: God really loves bling
There's two things going on with the answersingenisis link. One is the big huge problem with the geology the other is that gemstones like sapphires, rubies didn't really start to "sparkle" until people figured out how to cut the gems at different angles to make them sparkle and this didn't happen until the late Middle Ages. Of course Creationists probably think ancient Jews had faceted, sparkling gemstones and don't stop to check out the actual history of such things. The following link is a very interesting history of cutting gems. I find it fascinating anyway.

http://university.langantiques.com/index...nd_Cutting

They also mention mistranslation of the Biblical reference to diamonds.

“ You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work. In the style of the ephod you shall make it—of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen shall you make it. It shall be square and doubled, a span its length and a span its breadth. You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. Exodus 28:15 - 28:18 ”

This reference has caused people to believe that diamonds were known in biblical times. But the 'diamond' comes from the erroneous translation of the Hebrew yahalom and Greek adamas.

So, it's typical Bible mistranslation crap and sure, mistranslating the word for diamond isn't too important but it points to an overall trend throughout the bible.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
