The people who wrote this movie were stoned.

The people who wrote this movie were should be stoned.

Facepalm

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

The principal(?) says that they are bound to "no moments of silence" -- wait, what? Moments of silence are an alternative that WE often put forward to explicit prayer, and we usually don't get them to compromise even that far. No, seriously, who here would object to, say, a ten second moment of silence in school, so long as the students aren't explicitly instructed to use it for prayer?

Hemaht pointed out the core concept's absurdity of hammering a teacher for quoting a Bible-verse in a way that was relevant to both the subject matter and a student's question.

The ACLU gets cast as the villain. What. A. Shock.

Cops siding with the atheists and arresting the Christians in that sort of case? That IS a shock. Normally it would be the other way around if they crossed the line like that. And yes, unless there's a convoluted B-plot that justifies it, that IS crossing the line. I mean even if they're outright preaching in front of a class, that's a firing and maybe a lawsuit, but not an arresting offense unless he had to be forcibly removed from the premises or punched someone or something like that.

It had a huge opening weekend because all the easily-manipulated Christians (as distinct from the not-easily-manipulated ones) preordered tickets as a show of faith. After its first week, its box office returns dropped off sharply.

Actually according to IMDB the first film did relatively well.

Quote:Box Office

Budget: $2,000,000 (estimated)
Opening Weekend: $9,244,641 (USA) (21 March 2014)
Gross: $60,753,735 (USA) (1 August 2014)

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

The atheist character in the first movie dies at the end, if I recall correctly. And they wonder why many atheists have such a difficult time with religion?

... huh. My bad, I'd heard otherwise and like an idiot didn't check for myself. Good catch.

So new theory about why it did well? It's because 'Murica has zero taste. (America might have taste, but 'Murica don't.)
