Another good question is why he doesn't just reveal himself to everyone once they reach a certain age. It would totally remove the need for faith and ensure that everybody had no excuse for not believing or respecting divine authority. Instead, credulity is required.

That would take the power away from the church. We would listen to god and not the church. That is why we need faith, AND the church to guide us. Reach DEEP into your pockets and fill that colletion plate, or you will go to hell.
