Done.

Goddamn popcorn ceiling. Angry

The ceiling looks about 6" higher without that crap on there.

Plan on changing HVAC filters too...probably more than once. That plaster dust is pretty fine and gets everywhere...we still find it here and there.

I didn't have much dust at all because I kept spraying gobs of water on the ceiling to loosen it. The plastic tarp I put down was covered in a wet white mud and big chunks of wet popcorn globs and puddles of water. Afterwards I rolled the plastic tarp up in a big ball so at least the clean up was easy.

I finally did lightly score the ceiling with an utility knife and that helped get the water behind the paint and popcorn. It was easier to scrape it off after that.

Note to self: Next time hire a professional.

Thanks everyone. You're good company. Heart

I am a house designer and my wife an interior designer. We decided to rebuild our summer house in New Zealand. We hired the local company Max Contracts. I know that they have a great reputation + we could control the whole building process.

And really - summer house???

I can barely afford this one, let alone a second summer home...

Luckily we've avoided the popcorn ceilings. Wall paper on the other hand I've had plenty of practice in removing. Used that scoring gadget, rented a steamer, used various concoctions: all miserable experiences. The worst was a vinyl type wallpaper that steam couldn't penetrate. It took a month of after work time scraping it off in small postage sized increments. Next time I sell my house, if the buyer is an asshole, I'm putting up that wallpaper.

I live in an apartment but I do most of the work at my SO's house.

This summer will see me repair a balcony (already started), fix the driveway, replace a basement window, repair/replace fascia and eavestrough on her garage... to say nothing of the earthmoving I'll have to do for her garden.

Yes, I expect to be pretty buff by the time August rolls around. Thumbsup Milady will like that.

RE: Got any summer house renovations plans?
Got a few plans, mostly exterior and landscaping. Just built a new deck, patio, and gazebo over the last two weeks. That's at the place where we live in Gatineau, as opposed to the wooded property up in Rivière Rouge where I have a lot of landscaping and preliminary work to do.

My plan for this summer is:

1. Remove everything that isn't birch. By local regulation I have to maintain 70% tree cover. I think the birch alone can accomplish this. Later I can put a tap on them.

2. Figure out exactly where we'll put the house and build a driveway accordingly.

3. Build a tool storage shack.

4. Build a well (no access to city water).

5. Extend the power from the road and get an RV hookup in place.

We may or may not get started on certain low maintenance portions of our planned forest garden, including some mushroom logs. The house itself, assuming I can keep massing the overtime, will be a project for next year.

By summer 2019, I want to have a finished vacation home.

Not really a renovation, but we're putting in a hot tub. So pretty happy about that. Looking forward to relaxing in it at night with a nice glass of wine under the stars. Thumbsup We also need to fix my deck and my backyard needs A LOT of work. When we first bought this house, the backyard looked like Jurassic Park. Wink

Is this about renovating a house over the summer or renovating a summer house?

Either way.... no...
