RE: "Got religion"
I've heard (again, I have no sources, sorry) that religion once referred to serious, even zealous, belief in god. The religious people were not in the majority. They were limited to the priests and some devoted followers. Whereas lots of people believed in god, but were not so religious about it.

I often jokingly say that I (as a teen) or someone else "caught" religion. I also say it's like a virus and now that I've survived it, I have life-long immunity (barring serious mental problems, like senility or a bump on the head. Luckily, I did get a concussion once (with loss of consciousness and amnesia) and didn't wake up praising the lawd, so am not too worried)

Also, I've had this kinda stuck in my head since yesterday and I want it out, out, OUT! Where did I put the icepick? Dodgy

Years back before viagra came around, I saw an ad for an "enhancer" in I think a Penthouse magazine (that I only read for the articles, of course), which clearly stated "This fast acting placebo is guaranteed to give you the results you desire." ...wish I had cut it out and saved it.

You can not only "get" or "find" religion, you can also lose it:

To say one "got religion" is admitting one made mistakes, is reforming oneself, and is starting over as if it all never happened. A clean slate is one of the big benefits of believing in a forgiving God. If one is bogged down with a feeling of worthlessness and helplessness, it can help to change one's self-concept. Sometimes it even works.

Most of the time I hear it, it's used as a metaphor. "Joe was going to reign hellfire down on Bob but then he gave him the come to Jesus talk and Bob got religion."

There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. -Camus

Almost everyone catch religion during childhood. Sadly not everyone are able to beat this disease.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Acts so fast, it's like you didn't take anything at all.
