Just re reading O.P. and started thinking an ethically higher cosmic power could well exist and all scripture contain history, paradox, seeming stupidity, violence, craziness, along with lots of annoying pseudo pride and dogma, could still hold the seeds of an unravelling learning curve directed towards a potential higher consciousness.Angel

Higher consciousness? What's that? Is it suppose to be something like a so-called soul? So far the only consciousness around is our's and it doesn' t seem to be all that different from individual to individual. All else is just wishful thinking. Dodgy

Are you talking about that "enlightenment" nonsense? That's easy. The meaning of life can be found in any good dictionary. [Note: Sarcasm]

Um, silver linings include the soon-after creation of Israel as a secular Jewish nation, in fulfillment of prophecy, and the worldwide recognition that God helped the Allies triumph over socialist and fascist tyranny and man's cruelty to man.

Nope. Let's rewind. Here's the original post of PJ's I was responding to:

(14-06-2013 12:13 PM)PleaseJesus Wrote:  A cruel God would have a hardier creation. The average stay in Auschwitz was three months before death. Lacking B vitamins and a basic diet, camp prisoners had trouble remembering even the names of lost ones, another mercy.

No, if I was the cruel God you propose, I'd make the bodies/soul cages tougher, so the Nazis could torture people psychically and physically for five-seven years or more instead of three months.

PJ said a cruel god would have made the holocaust worse. I feel sorry for all the gods out there; their PR teams really suck.

If Jesus died for our sins, why is there still sin? If man was created from dust, why is there still dust? If Americans came from Europe, why are there still Europeans?

More like a collective consciousness where the individual recognizes its own irrelevance while simultaneously appreciating it as the only thing of relevance there is. Science and technology represent artifacts of this collective consciousness. The individual scientist or engineer is no longer critical to their advancement. They will continue to advance exponentially. The core has been breached and containment is no longer possible. If Leibniz hadn't discovered the Calculus, Newton would've. If Newton hadn't discovered the Calculus, Leibniz would've. There are many, many more examples of simultaneous discovery. Redundancy is now built-in. Yes I am talking of the Borg here. Tongue

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

I know that you're saying words but all I hear is "new age" nonsense. Sorry. You're going to have to accept that this all there is.

Memetics explains it better. The ideas are out there, held in many minds; it is the zeitgeist.
The synthesis is there to be grasped by any ready minds.

No Borg, no woo.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

You're starting to sound like a theist. "All you need is to believe.... To have faith." Justifing your reality and making it more than it truly is.
