RE: Great quotes
"Suns are extinguished or become corrupted, planets perish and scatter across the wastes of the sky; other suns are kindled, new planets formed to make their revolutions or describe new orbits, and man, an infinitely minute part of a globe which itself is only an imperceptible point in the immense whole, believes that the universe is made for himself."
-Baron d'Holbach

One of the least known atheists but among atheist historians is considered the father of modern atheism. He was certainly way ahead of his time. The other "skeptics" of his time split the baby with "I don't know" trying to be fair, but more like they didn't want to be social outcasts. Holbach went all the way.

I couldn't agree more. His eloquence knows no match in modern times. Yes

"All human knowledge is more or less clear. By what strange fatality have we never been able to elucidate the science of God? The most civilized nations, and among them the most profound thinkers, are in this respect no more enlightened than the most savage tribes and ignorant peasants; and, examining the subject closely, we shall find, that, by the speculations and subtle refinements of men, the divine science has been only more and more obscured. Every religion has hitherto been founded only upon what is called, in logic, begging the question; it takes things for granted, and then proves, by suppositions, instead of principles."
-Baron d'Holbach, Good Sense, 1770

"The blues aren’t pessimistic. We’re prisoners of hope but we tell the truth and the truth is dark. That’s different."

-Cornel West

"I feel as though the camera is almost a kind of voyeur in Mr. Beans life, and you just watch this bizarre man going about his life in the way that he wants to."

-Rowan Atkinson

Hitchens had a huge vocabulary.

That made no sense.

Humans are not robots and it is ok to have emotions and find beauty in things. The real trick is to figure out the reality of what is going on so you can explain it with evidence.

There most certainly is beauty in the world.

Lao Tzu would agree with you.

He's just suggesting that beauty, goodness and truth are different aspects of reality which can't be reduced to each other, and so should not be conflated.

If they are conflated, things get messy. Conflate goodness (or "morality") with truth and you get religion...
