RE: Great songs...got jebus in 'em...

I like Christmas music, both traditional and secular. Even when I was a Christian though, I HATED the song "Little Drummer Boy". Then I heard about this episode of "The West Wing" and watched it on Netflix. The children's choir performs a version of the song I really enjoy. Prior to that, I had never followed the series. In this episode, a White House staffer is alerted to the death of a homeless veteran who froze to death after his business card was found in the man's jacket. The staffer had donated the jacket to a thrift store, unaware the business card was there. The staffer tracked down the man's only family, a brother, and makes sure the man receives a proper burial.

I mean, sure, you can never go wrong with Gordon Lightfoot and all, but...

It mentions God and a prayer in a cathedral but mostly I was listening to Gordon Lightfoot tonight and heard this and figured wth.

And didn't you post Cohen's Hallelujah before? 'Cause that's not really about religion either...

Don't make me accuse you of culturally mis-appropriating my Canadian heritage, Revs.

No neither is particularly religious (though Hallelujah is more so than WotEF) but both are incredible songs. Think of it as being a cultural ambassador exposing more people to the wonders of Canadian music. Besides do I have to bring up Bryan Adams? Tongue

Hallelujah isn't religious at all - it's about human sexual love, desire, longing, and estrangement; it's an atheist Jew using Biblical references and imagery ironically.

Oh - and no Jebus. So, there's that. Drinking Beverage

Probably my favorite film...Cool Hand Luke. This is the scene in which Paul Newman's character finds out his mother has just died and he sings The Plastic Jesus song. It gets me everytime and I've seen this movie probably 16 times. Love this movie, just love it.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Ops. Meant to add this scene also from Cool Hand Luke.

Harry Dean Stanton sings Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down around 3:14.

This is a movie that all real men should see once in their lives.

See it?
What if I've been there?
Am I less? Am I more?

Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" album is all about Ian Anderson's personal relationship with god (Anderson is a believer). I love that album, despite the religious tones.

You were in a Southern prison? You lived the life of a chain gang? Wow.
