Are you suggesting I should stop taking a drug which could quite possibly delay the onset of my inevitable dementia? 'Cause that ain't gonna happen. I jettisoned carcinogens not nicotine.

Quote:I knew he was anti-drug. He did an interview once (many years ago) -- it might have been with Guitar Player magazine, because they kept asking his opinion of other guitarists -- and for most of them, his opinion was "That guy's an asshole -- he does drugs".

I've seen a lot of stuff like this over the years:

http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f77/ted...45651.html

but I don't remember a single interview where he went medieval on everyone...although it wouldn't surprise me a bit. He and I get along, I think, because we both feel that straight talk is best in the long run. I'm pretty open and say what I feel to anyone, anywhere...but Ted makes me feel like a monk who has taken a vow of silence. Wow...he just consistently surprises me. Not always in a positive way, I've told him lots of times I saw him or heard him on an interview and he was an ass...he just grins and agrees. What can you do, lol...

Yeah, I could be wrong. The interview that I think I remember was back in the 1970s, before there was such a thing as the internet, so it's hard to find (if it exists at all). It's possible that it was someone else (not Ted). I'll do some more hunting and post a link if I find it.

There she is! She's beautiful, SK.

My memory is like swiss cheese, moldy and full of holes Smile but I could swear the Riley conversion included 3 bladed props...is it my memory or is that just an upgrade you didn't opt for?
there were several variations of rocket. I have owned two. One I parted out.
This is the short rocket, using the original IO-470D installed in the 1959 model.
Older 310's had carbureted engines ( not so much fun for turbocharging), so they replaced the 470's with narrow deck lycoming 540's. Those ones got the 3 bladed props.
The 470D is a much better engine than the narrow deck lycoming, so I was happy to have the one I have.
It had a long list of other mods, 6 tanks, big camera windows for photomapping. It was converted when I was 3 years old so no, I did not have much to say about the build Tongue

Ah, yes, that rings a faint bell, actually. I've owned one 310 and two 340's, I love the breed. I taught in the first one I bought, before purchasing it from the school I was working for. I got such a kick out of watching newbie ME pilots wrestle the tip tank slosh on short final, lol. That's actually why the school's owner sold it, that and the baffling fuel management seemed like a renter plane nightmare waiting to happen.

I had many adventures in that first twin. What great times.

I've owned better planes, one of my favorites was a Reims Cessna 406, a truly wonderful aircraft. I owned a C-90B King Air, great bird, as well as a 414 and several aerobatic planes and a few warbirds. I currently own a T-6D.

Yet I have the fondest memories of my very first plane, an Aeronca Champ, and my first twin, that old 310. The champ allowed a young, arrogant, stupid, and fearless pilot to live despite himself, and the 310 was my first taste of true aviation freedom- you could actually load up friends and their baggage and go places, often beating the airlines door-to-door. For a 19 year old kid, that was COOL.

I pity non-pilots, don't you? If they only knew the joys of a $100 hamburger. I actually picked Gordon Baxter up at his home field and flew him to Oklahoma for a $100 hamburger once. Great time!

My dad's last plane was a Champ with an 85...(he had heart probs years ago - and the meds screwed him on medical ---- then he sold the damned thing before they got reclassified... He could get the new Sportsman ticket...)

I got good enough in it to take off and land from both seats... It's a fun one to take off the door (not legal) and hang outside to get great aerial photography.......

.....

A REAL airplane, is one you have to pull the prop through by hand...

I spent a lot of my retirement galavanting around the country in the 310, and now I have to make up for it. No regrets though, they were good times. Better to have the fun while you are young and can enjoy it.

Greetings from Canada. Our current Prime Minister is a Liberal. Yes, capital "L", as in Liberal Party of Canada. Don't blame me, I voted for the party to the left of him.

As you'll have gathered, we're a pretty diverse bunch around here. There are a very few topics that are forbidden but they're common sense and clearly spelled out in The Rules. Pretty much anything else goes. I like the variety because it makes this place less of an echo canyon than other forums I've frequented. I find myself agreeing with OLB and some of the other conservatives here more often than not, which makes me wonder just how manufactured the political divide is. If you aren't careful, you might find yourself agreeing with some of us socialists. Tongue

Welcome again to the forum.
