RE: Griping about the weather thread
Apparently, we just got hit by "Winter Storm Quinn" -- no big deal, we got 4 or 5 inches of snow, much of which has already melted. But when did they start naming snowstorms?

Power outages all over the place.

They really underestimated this storm!

Our basement is wet and we lost a couple large branches. It's dark now so I am not expecting much sleep tonight and tomorrow will be damage control Sad

Our power's been out for 18 hours now...no telling when it will come back on. Goodbye to all the food in the fridge.

Open all the windows in one room, put the food in there. Close the door. Shove towel under the door.

Problem solved!Rolleyes

If you're talking about the National Weather Service...they don't. Local news services have taken to giving their own "special" names to storms of any stripe.

Pretty soon it will be "Drizzle-pocalypse Lucille...Film at eleven!"

Near 70°F a few days ago, over a foot of heavy, wet snow last night. More snow Monday. Blink

Lost two trees in the night and lost power from 11:45PM last night 'til 5:40PM today. Dodgy

Stay safe...and warm.

Yeesh, you guys are really getting hammered this winter.

See here they are, the bruises, some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. -JF

More snow Monday...Shit. I haven't been listening to the news (too busy shoveling, while dodging the snow dumping from the branches overhead). We weren't even supposed to get much snow from the storm yesterday, turned out to be about 8".

Sorry about your trees. We're worried about a couple of ours, though they're still upstanding at the moment.

I hate March so much.

This winter has been awful Sad I hope you guys get power back soon.

The poor trees have really taken a beating! Our row of arborvitae are all askew. I am not sure how to fix it because they are all leaning in different directions. / \ \ / \ \ / / / \ \ /

Yes

It's not local, because they've been calling that storm "Quinn" ever since it was in the Great Plains a week or so ago. Now it's in the Northeast, and they're still calling it that. According to one website, The Weather Channel has been generating these names.

Yup. The Weather Channel is the worst offender now, and they started it a couple of years ago. Everything in the name of advertising click-through income.

I've seen some local channels do it, too.

RE: Griping about the weather thread
Well, the third nor'easter in two weeks is underway with 12-20" of snow predicted for my area. Dodgy

At 6:00AM there was about an inch of snow, seems to be about three now, but with the wind picking up it's not easy to tell.
