I keep a closely cropped beard mainly for easier maintenance.
Good to read all those positive points.
I really don;t think beards, at any age, make men look younger though.

I think the idea is that it keeps the skin on the face looking younger. Of course, that would mean shaving it to find out.

Is this place still a shithole run by a dumbass calvinist?

The sun protection is also very important.
I believe ears are quite prone to carcinomas.
Of course most of us don't have much growth there.
Even with caps and hats the face may cop excessive exposure.

I'm in the exact same beard boat.

I have the goatee. Took a while for it to fill in and look ok. Tried growing the sides but they looked more like a fro on my face. Somehow those hairs are "other". They are way too curly.

I tried it another time thinking it just needed time to fill in like the goatee did. The longer I waited the worse it looked. I knew it was time to abandon all hope when my wife asked "so, what the heck are you trying to do with your face?"

Had a beard, shaved when too many of the hairs came out white.

The one thing I learned is that it takes as much time and effort to maintain a beard so that you don't look like a hobo as it does to just shave while you are taking your morning crap.

I'm shaving mine on Saturday along with my hair and one eyebrow for the greater good: http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/Fuzzy
