I live in the Dominican Republic where there is not that much difference between one part of the year and another, but always wonder why the light and dark change isn't closer to six PM and AM instead of 7:30. Are we in the wrong part of the time zone?

Google "equation of time".

Superposition for the win! When I taught physics, one of my favorite demonstrations was to have two students wave a rope up and down, independently and then in concert, at different rates. Superposition visually demonstrated, very cool.

Merry Christmas and whatever else... and a happy new year to all.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

Tracie Harris, from The Atheist Experience, posted a mashup of the bible nativity stories and the secular Christmas stories that has some funny lines.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.
