Hard hitting question from a theist.
Question i saw today:

If the bible was written by man and not god, why are four of the Ten Commandments about god and rules about him?

I don't know how to answer that, not cos it's a good question... I'm just too aghast!

is it a trick question ?

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".

I think we just found the thin line between delusional and outright stupid.

I think Bill O'Reilly rocketed past that line with "Tide comes in. Tide goes out" comment.

That, and the first time someone said "how can you not believe in god? Haven't you ever seen a sunset?" it made my brain stutter. Hobo

Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.

Because man invented god...to serve the needs of the priests.

RE: Hard hitting question from a theist.
I was under the impression that 99% of theists agreed that the bible was written by Man under the influence/inspiration of GOD (this gives the apologists wiggle room for conflicts).

"The Bible is inspired by belief in God. It records and preserves the Hebrew/Jewish people’s history with a belief in Gods, the life and teachings of Jesus entity, and the beginnings of the Christian Church. Inspired, yes. There is, however, a critical difference between claimed spiritual revelation and human words. The words of the Bible were mostly penned by writers who believed they had a close personal relationship with God, and were under some level of the power of the Holy Spirit as they wrote, but nowhere do we read that they were immaculately conceived, or that they were transfigured as they wrote.

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".

No, deities were first invented as externalized abstract concepts that embodied human characteristics/emotions and explained natural phenomena. Only when civilizations with social hierarchies developed were gods used as tools by the elite.

RE: Hard hitting question from a theist.
Well, the whole bible is about god, why wouldn't the commandments supposedly from god not be about god? I don't see why this is a good question.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.
