Is your defence really "look at China, they are worse then the US"? This entire thread is about why some people criticize the US and you keep saying there are other countries that are as bad or worse. Why is that relevant here?

Because the thread is about why other countries hate America. So far all they have come up with is stuff that plenty of other countries are guilty of, and yet those countries aren't hated. I think that's a very pertinent point.

How admirable!
And lets not forget that NASA will no longer do astrophysics soon, FermiLab is closing next year, and the Super Colliding Super Conductor never got built. All the scientists are moving to Europe and we get Michelle Bachman. USA! USA! USA!

sy2502, I see your point, but you can hate Croatia as much as you want, but we never said anyone we are the best, we never go around the world pushing our ways to others, we don't preach one think and then do the opposite... The thing we are trying to explain to you, but you are failing to hear us is that USA need to stand up for their beliefs. USA (government) is constantly pushing something, but then failing to do the right thing. That is maybe the biggest reason why "everybody" doesn't like USA. As we tried to explain in previous posts, if you compare USA and China then you can see a huge difference in politics concerning other countries. It all about how you promote yourself, so that people know what to expect of you (your state). It is correct that a lot of other countries are worse than USA in a lot of things, but it is about what you expect to see out of those states. I do not expect China to be the greatest country in the world with huge human liberties and great economy, freedom of speech... But I do expect that form USA, those are some of the things your country was made on.

It's all about the perspective, and that perspective comes from self-promotion, in this case from USA.

I do hope I have explained this in a way to understand it, because I still have plenty of hangover from last couple of days, so...

First of all, the US is not "my country", I am European born and raised, I live in the US, and I can assure you it is infinitely better than any European country I have lived in. If you are European, maybe you should try living in the US for a bit, just so you'd get the point. As much as American idea of the country may seem inflated to other countries, I can assure you they have a point about quite a lot. Personally I do think it's the best and greatest country I have lived in, so I can't possibly say anything different, whether you like it or not.
Second, remember in high school when the fat ugly girl hated the skinny, beautiful one? She'd say all these things about how the cute girl was vain and stupid and vapid, and arrogant... but we all knew the real reason she hated her was that she was was the fat girl would have liked to be, and the fat girl was only jealous because the other girl got all the attention the ugly girl wanted? Not that she'd ever admit it of course... Well, when I talk to Europeans who bash America, I always get the impression I am hearing the fat girl talk about the cute one. France, England, Spain, they all used to be powerful, world-spanning empires. Now they are small, broke, parochial countries with little effect on world affairs. Oh how the mighty have fallen... and oh how they brood about it! Big Grin

RE: Hate America- It's the hip and trendy thing to do.
much of the younger generation no longer believes in religion. they will soon be the established generation, and the rest just senile. however, something thats going on right now, is christianity trying harder and harder to cling to conservatism, and claim that being religious is what conservatism is. its not. The true meaning of being conservative is that the government is limited. under conservative government, taxes are low, jobs are plentiful, and theres always room for people to break out of their class, and move up in life. it means that excuses are not made for people. rediculous things like humoring idiots who hug and worship trees get no credit. and they certainly do not go from nation to nation talking about how horrible their own country is. no other major country do that, yet they attack us. In my opinion, all the religious conservatives are just a horrible hanger on, adding a mass of religious rules to the government, something the conservative founding fathers never wanted. people often mistake liberal as being free from religion, and even though the word liberal means free, its not exactly what the group means. basically, its a group of people that includes america haters, christians, and every other religion too, some atheists, communists, socialists, and pretty much all minorities. and the first person to propose communism, were the early christians. it says that anything they owned or bought, was split up amoung the group, and split up evenly. no one got rich, and no one starved. sounds flowery, but people have abitions if theirminds are chained by a god. its a side of politics that just uses the decit of politics to get the vote of all the minorities, picking every side except conservative to get everyone, and try to make the rest of the country feel bad about themselves, so they vote liberal. both sides are very, very wrong. i mplore you to not be a member of either. we have no reason to join with people that believe stupidity, just to get the christians out of office. our numbers are increasing enough that we can start a new party, the freedom party. free of god, and free of mankind. if we are patient, we can do so much more than just join with liberals, and get branded along with some of the weirdos and freaks liberals include. I believe that the new party should believe that no divine scripture should influence any political practices. many of the rediculous and unneccessary departments would be done away with, with only what the nation needs. the defensive departments(fbi, cia, etc), the congressional and house, presidential, the irs, foreign ambassadors, embessies, and policy makers, the military, nasa, and any other scientiffic government departments. all the smaller stuff that just fills seats needs to be gone. the states can carry out everything else like fire, police, education pretty much what the do today. then, laws regarding parenting. if it is brought to the attention of anyone, that a parent is punishing a child for reasons other than what is clearly wrong of the child for doing, they may be punished in some way. what i mean is that say a little girl wont say her prayers, or she didnt memorize a bible verse, so she got a spanking or time out. even though that child is so young, she is an american, and does indeed have the freedom of religion. we will root out brainwashing, and in time, solve the whole problem itself.

So you are saying the "Freedom Party" is going to make laws that allow the government to take legal action against someone for giving little Suzy a time out for something the party doesn't agree with? Might wanna re-think that name.

So many cats, so few good recipes.

no, its protecting the childrens freedom of religion. noone should have the right to brainwash someone. thats like saying oh, its my right to rape. i wanna have sex with that girl, im just gunna go rape her and how dare you try to stop me. no one should be able to spank, put in time out, or just generally punish there kids on the sole grounds of religion. they can say dont lie, don cheat, dont steal, and punish them for that. but there should be some sort of threat against lying to your children and telling them that you better pray to my god or ill spank you. and be happy, cuz when ylou grow up, and you dont obey him, he spanks harder, with disease and pain. thats word for word what my mother told me

RE: Hate America- It's the hip and trendy thing to do.
I like the "fat girl-skinny girl" theory. It does make a lot of sense but what I fail to understand is that if you have figured that out, how come you are still wondering why is it that people around the world are still bashing USA? That "girl" argument is enough for you to just wave and laugh when somebody starts bashing USA.

But you still can not persuade me that everything is peachy there. I still feel the politics of USA heavily weighting on my country, on all surrounding countries and I see it on all the countries in the world. I still can not smoke weed because of USA, I will still have to pay taxes for extra expensive, but old and crappy F-16 that USA wants to sell to my country (instead of throwing them to the garbage), and who are we to say no and buy Swedish-state-of-the-art-Gripens or Russian-top-of-the-line-MIGs instead? I can go on and on for days like this.

Until these things change, until USA stops being Team America - World Police you will be bashed, ridiculed and laughed at. It is the only thing we (rest of the world) can do, sarcasm, jokes and cynicism are our only weapons. And to tell you the truth, a lot of Americans are making it very easy, so why not? You make me pay more money because of your politicians and governments, I will make fun of them and you, because you (the people) have elected them. You can fight this by better education of lower and middle classes and by electing governments who will look more into USA than other countries, then we will have less "ammunition".

Whats fair is fair, right?

RE: Hate America- It's the hip and trendy thing to do.
I'm back (even though I guess you didn't really notice that I was gone Smile)

Filox, I'm not sure I would call Gripen state-of-the-art... I know they're quite good now after all the developments that have been made but I do think you'd do better with the MIGs... or actually you'd probably do a lot better without buying any fighter planes at all. Of course I'm a bit biased and I'm still a bit pissed off that our governments decided to throw an incredible amount of money into developing these planes that we never needed in the first place.
Afterwards there's been lots of scandals with bribery involved in how we were trying to sell them to other governments and how we've been selling them to dictatorial countries (in Swedish law it's forbidden to sell weapons to any country currently involved in a war or to any country which is abusing human rights or not democratic, not quite sure which it is, not that we really care as long as it brings money to our corporations though)...

sy2502:
I still don't agree that you point about other countries is pertinent, as Filox said as long as the US keeps shouting "we're the best in these areas" which they clearly are not, then we will keep saying they're not Smile
You also wrote earlier that other countries don't get the same amount of complaints, I don't really know where you're at but at least here in Sweden I'd say there's a lot of people and organizations that complain loudly about how China handles everything from human rights issues to the environment (except of course from our right-wing government who finds China a very nice partner to trade with...) or how Russia is using their gas resources as leverage against other countries and so on.

Overall I'd say that since Bush left office there's not much anti-America sentiments any more... as long as you don't talk to people right after you let them watch some clips with Michele Bachmann or some of the other candidates of course Big Grin

See, the problem is seeing it as a all or nothing. America is either perfect, or it sucks and should be hated. Actually there's another alternative, which is that America, with all its faults and problems, is still the best place in which I have ever lived, and has every right to be proud of itself. Saying we are going to hate America because it's not perfect is pretty silly wouldn't you think?

English is not my first language. If you think I am being mean, ask me. It could be just a wording problem.
