Hello from England
Hi everyone,

Just to give you some background on why I am an atheist.

My late grandmother was from a generation where most people went to church. So she asked my late father to send me to Sunday school. I went to the first few, but something about it didn't sound real. So I started skipping it and spent my time down at the local docks.

Then aged 11 I was sent to boarding school by the local council. There it was - at the time , the late 70's - compulsory for all boarders to go to church on a Sunday. This really ticked me off. We all had to put money in the collection plate (kind of a tithe). We couldn't escape this because we had to wear our school uniform, so we stuck out a mile. If we didn't put it we'd be reported. So for the next six years every Sunday I'd put in the plate 1/2p. Now that's no longer a legal tender.

Since I've got online I've watched lots of videos about Atheist views and theist rules and the debunking of their rules. Read a few books as well. I am hoping that being here will expand my knowledge and help me understand more of myself. Thanks you.

Welcome Smile Another English guy here too.

I have a website here which discusses the issues and terminology surrounding religion and atheism. It's hopefully user friendly to all.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to my time on here, and joining in discussions and probably embarrassing myself with my lack of biblical knowledge. But, hey we all have to learn at some point why most people who read it, become atheist.
