Hey, peoples.
I'm a classical musician living in one of the less absurd parts of Kentucky (which is still pretty absurd). I was born and raised in a Baha'i family, which I honestly appreciate--I missed being raised Catholic by one generation. And my atheistic bent came from the Baha'i writings, what with the encouragement to conduct one's own investigation for truth. I did that, and realized that religious teachings are by-and-large circular arguments, with no evidence outside of their own books and millennia-old traditions. Meanwhile, reading Carl Sagan gave me a replacement for religion, with the universe exactly as it is, no bells and whistles, no interpretation, no slaughtering of millions of innocent people over a book; and yet still conveyed a soaring intellectual, possibly spiritual, high, just from its own implications. At this point I'd say I'm an agnostic atheist--I don't believe in a god, but if one showed up or actually did something useful (god forbid...), I'd dig it.

Last night I looked up atheist communities and found this one. Listened to the "Butterfly Effect" episode of the podcast, read some stuff around the forums. And now I'm joining the fray.

Sensei, I've never seen that gif! Made me smile. I love goofy classroom Sagan.
