RE: Hitler not so bad?
Well, I just spent nearly half an hour trying to locate some sort of Jewish bakery or restaurant in my area... sadly, there seems to be nothing of the sort in southeast Missouri. *sigh*

Will have to wait until I get back up to Kansas City. Damnit.

I am *seriously* craving a proper dry-aged pastrami on rye, now. And I can't get it.

Fuck!

Fuck!

What kind of mustard?

I like a dab of mayo but only if I'm alone. Blush

It's a bit like ketchup on a hotdog, simply not done.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

I occasionally pick up some pastrami and a loaf of pumpernickel. Great stuff.

Well, I'm biased, but I tend to go with Louisiana brands, so if I'm getting to choose the mustard I'll go with Zatarain's spicy mustard:

Some people put Russian dressing on their pastrami sandwiches, but I think that's disgusting.

I like ketchup on my hotdogs, and mayo on almost every type of sandwich there is, with two exceptions... this is one, and the other is the muffaletta, which is a what happened when Italians immigrated to New Orleans, and is in my opinion the single best sandwich on earth if made correctly.

Edit: For the Kosher-minded individuals, it is not required that the sandwich be made with cheese... but I wouldn't recommend skipping the cheese! Big Grin

RE: Hitler not so bad?
Addendum: I like ketchup on my hotdogs unless I can get proper sauerkraut... but that is surprisingly hard to find. In lieu of a good mustard, onions, and sauerkraut combo (on a good brat-type hotdog), I tend to go with ketchup and a sharp, spicy mustard. Just wanted to make it clear that I'm not a ketchup blasphemer when a proper dog is available. For generic dogs, I use generic toppings, and like 'em just fine. Big Grin

Cheese on a meat sandwich is just sacrilege. It's as bad as eating pastrami on white bread and slathered with mayonnaise.

Fun fact, I very rarely meet Jews who can stand even a little mayonnaise. To my amusement, Tartarus is no exception to the rule. Smile I can take a little here and there, especially in tuna salad or something, but I've met lots of Jews who can't tolerate the stuff even as an ingredient inside of a dish. Mayo is really not a Jewish ingredient.

BTW, this is my personal go-to mustard, but really any spicy brown mustard will do.

Gulden's is good stuff. With the muffaletta, I'd say the freshly-made (it MUST be fresh!) mozzarella cheese melting in with the cold olive salad spread on top of it before closing up the sandwich is integral to the special way in which the muffaletta hits all of the "taste groups" simultaneously... the salty olives, the sweet red peppers (the bread is also typically made a bit sweet), the spicy meats (it typically uses three or four spicy Italian meats), and the melty savory taste of the cheese... oh, it just sets off fireworks in the brain. It truly does.

Sadly, it's very easy to get the muffaletta wrong... Schlotsky's Deli is a chain restaurant here in the Midwest that makes an awful one (which is odd, because some of their sandwiches are pretty good), somehow.

But I get that if you're raised never mixing meat with cheese, it would be hard to enjoy sandwiches that have that combo, as an adult, even if you weren't strict about eating Kosher.

(13-11-2016 11:00 AM)RocketSurgeon76 Wrote:  Aliza, all joking aside... I have to give you props/kudos for how well you handle antisemitic bullshit. I think I would react a lot more vehemently if people were always talking about Cajuns the way they talk about your people. Honestly, even though I know the history of antisemitism and its roots in Catholicism, I just can't understand why it didn't utterly die in 1945. Every time I see this stuff, I can't stop thinking, "What the fuck is WRONG with these people!?"

Well, it boils down to two things. 1) We are expecting antisemitism. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been told that antisemitism will exist and there’s pretty much nothing I can do about it. We’re damned if we do, and we’re damned if we don’t, so just go about your day and ignore the anti-Semites.

2) The anti-Semites who believe that we’re controlling the world are, by the nature of their very comments, saying that we’re smarter and superior to them. –Which is actually very flattering when you think about it. The anti-Semite says that we Jews are smart enough to rule the entire world clever enough to do it undercover (Why we wouldn’t want to take credit, I have no idea), and they’re saying that we’re united enough to pull this global stunt off over a period of centuries upon centuries without a trace, without any resources, and without taking anything for ourselves other than a tiny sliver of land without a drop of oil in the middle east. Most importantly, the anti-Semite is saying that they’re unable to stop us which is why they resort to whining about us on internet forums.

3) I know I said there would be two things, but we Jews always go back on our word, amiright? Our heritage tells us that until the messianic era, there will always be anti-Semites. –And there will always be Jews. They can’t stop us. They can’t destroy us, G-d knows they’ve tried. They’re stuck with us whether they like it or not, and if they were to live without us, they’d realize very quickly how integral we are to the inner workings of their society. We’re the people who cure their cancer. We’re the people who fix their teeth (that last one was wrong. Cletus never gets his teeth fixed because he doesn’t have dental insurance). We’re the ones who prosecute the people who wrong them, and we’re the ones who get them out of federal tax evasion charges. We’re the ones who educate their children in the basic fundamentals of English, math, science and history, and we’re the ones at the forefront of many major scientific and technological breakthroughs that enable those hillbilly losers to enjoy the wonderful technology which in turn enables them to post idiotic things on forums such as this one. (Hey! I guess we are running the world after all!)

We're educated, intelligent, kind and tolerate, and the anti-Semities know it. Every time some stupid comment makes its way onto the air waves or internet, they're admitting their own inferiority to us. They're scared of our success and no matter how hard they try, they just can't keep up with us. In the words of their great, new leader (who by the way, has a Jewish daughter), "sad".
