Home for break, asked to go to church
My mom wants me to go to church with the family this weekend. I really don't want to go. I have no idea what's gonna happen and I'm a bit nervous about it.

Maybe you could offer to stay behind and help prepare dinner?

That is tough, sorry Sad

Do they know you are a non-believer?

If not, start fake coughing on Friday.

Go. Make her happy. I do on Dec 24th.

Start preparing Saturday morning..... Eat nothing but beans, bratwurst, cabbage and cheap beer till Sunday morning.................

...........

Bring a gas mask -- cuz it'll get ugly.........

.........

Sure - it's a bit drastic -- but they'll never ask you to go again.....

You could ask her why she wants you to go.

Politely decline the invitation. If you don't want to go, then don't go.

Try to avoid getting into your reasons beyond "I don't feel comfortable there anymore." It can rub people the wrong way when you tell them that gleefully cheering for Armageddon is batshit crazy even if you do believe in God and that you'd rather not be around anybody that mentally imbalanced.

There may be some fall-out from that but unless your relationship with your parents has really taken a turn for the worse it shouldn't be too bad.

Sometimes I go with my family to their church (because they don't know I am atheist yet) and I go with genuine curiosity and just watch how people act. I look at it like an opportunity to make psychological observations. LOL

Whatever you choose to do, take it easy! Hope you enjoy your break!
