How can I find any atheist groups in my area?
Hey there. The title pretty much says it all. I'm interested in possibly joining an atheist group in my area/finding out about atheist events in my area, but don't know how to find any. I've got some friends who are atheist, but most of them could care less about it, whereas I crave discussion.

Thank you!

meetup.com

I found a facebook group for the local atheist group in my area from a gal over at AF

Also, try searching for your local humanist group (usually affiliated with atheist groups) AHA group finder

and if you want to post your city here, someone here might be nearby and can point you in the right direction.

Meetup.com is great.

Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Information RE: How can I find any atheist groups in my area?
The widest range and most consistent source for interaction with atheists is online.

Why do you want to find people in your area? Is it to meet people face to face? Are you seeking an opportunity to create a friendship/community with Atheism as a jumping off point? If so, i'd strongly suggest widening or better defining your search criteria.

Remember, atheism is just the lack in belief in a certain kind of magic (existence of gods). Atheists can just be as irrational, uneducated, and hostile as any other person.

Are you looking for secularists? People who may or may not be religious, but want religion out of public life? Or humanists? People who may or may not be religious but want to promote human welfare? Or a combination of both?

As an atheist, my suggestion would be to interact with the thousands of atheists online, and to interact with people in person on more shared substantive ideas and opinions.

You could always just walk down a mall and scream "religions suck"! And see who smiles.
