When you have fixed cats they can stay healthy by not breeding females depleting their own health and less fighting with the males so less injuries. Also, it keeps the breeders from moving in so the population as a whole stays healthier, less injuries, less disease and helps maintain a sustainable group.

Some states will offer times of spay/neuter program at a reduced cost or free to help keep the populations down. My state has this twice a year (right now actually). And some have year around clinics that do that. We have that too. There are 3 of the clinics in our state. I have taken stray dogs and cats and got them fixed for $20 (a freaking steal) before finding them homes. It's 40 miles from me but worth it.

While you might make this little one a pet, you could also consider do a catch/fix/release for the others. Maybe trying to catch one or two a month. Just an idea.

yes, a good idea. I think that I may have to do more than just save one cat...I think I may have to contact the local cat people for help though- I may need help-depending on how many cats show up...I will look for local clinics that offer the spay/neuter/release programs here I think there will be. Animal lovers are everywhere. I am glad that I bought the cat rescue havaheart trap, I will need it.

edit: Yes, there are a few programs righ here for inexpensive spay/neuter and rabies the release programs...so I will think on this...I am worried i may catch a neighbors cat though...I guess if the cat is friendly it has a home...if it is a spiltting hissing ball of fury it would be feral?

Depends on where you live, but here, if it's on your property you have the right to trap it. Hubby made no distinction - all cats that showed up got spayed. It was the only way to stop the source when owners just didn't spay/neuter because it cost money and because it wasn't "natural". I am willing to bet people never noticed. Just that the kittens stopped arriving.

Hopefully she will come again, but with noise and the door blowing on her, I doubt it... I will still try the outdoor trap when it arrives, and place food away from the door , perhaps it may work but I think she should hate us...

goddamnit what a fuck up

Try again today, after a serious talk with daughter. Or maybe with daughter not present. She may not come back in right away, but eventually she will. Food and warmth are great attractions. If it's real cold out she may well take the risk.

Try to come up with a better way to rig the door.....

Are you even reading any of these posts?
After all of the planning and the purchase of a trap...
You are likely not reading these, but are forgiven...Angel

Even if you are a cat killing, shovel hunting, eco-fauna protector and shooter of cats., Yes, you are forgiven by the human...

But, just so you know, I told this kitty what you said about her, so she would learn all about possible shovel attacks, and she now hates you, and will attack you on sight. Apparently, she has friends here, too. So, you can expect cats here to mob you, should you ever climb up this little mountain. She may tell the fisher, coyotes, wolves and bobcats too...boy, do you have a problem with the local mammals here...However, they will only talk about you within their territory...you should be fine if you stay away from the southern part of the stateYes

However, she may have misunderstood me. I am sure you are aware of the difficulties within interspecies communications, it is very difficult for cats to understand english. I read somewhere that they are better with the romance languages. So, in order to be safe, I hid all of the shovels, so she would not misunderstand my plans for her. You are welcome.Tongue

Well, I left a can of food outside the door, in the hopes she may return tonight. There is a motion detector light outside...the light went on and I looked out...and saw a cat eating-the wrong cat!! A black and white one now!! I had no idea there was a different cat tooSmile There must be quite a few out there, and I had no idea...as well as other animals-so I will have to be careful and not catch a skunk insteadBig Grin

Yes, be careful of the smelly, stripey cats with the poofy tails.... Big Grin

Good luck on your next attempt! That's an impressive amount of effort, kudos to you!
